SageTV Controlling Set Top Box

Hi There,

First off, great app! My only real gripes are lack of IR documentation/support and EPG support for us poor UK users, but since I am concerding purchasing SageTV for network streaming (and it's great!) I can live with that.

Anway, I am trying to get SageTV to control my set top box and am having a few problems. First off, can this be done using something other than the usb-uirt? I have a Extended Systems Jeteye IR dongle and also a Greenwhich Instruments GIRBiL, both of which are quite popular in the UK.

Do I need to resort to Girder to use one of this IR dongles or am I missing the point in that Girder is used to have an IR device control Sage - not Sage control an IR device such as a Set Top Box?

I can get Girder to control Sage using these dongles, but don't know how to go about getting Sage controling my set top box.

Anywon got any pointers?

Thanks
Simon

I think you need the exetuner plugin, do a search for it here. Once you are using girder, it will control both channel changes and sage.
Have a read here for some info also

Hi,

I now have the plugin setup and it's executing the command from the registry when I change channles.

Anyone got any pointers on how to get this "event.exe" to send the change channel commands?

Thanks
Simon

What Set Top Box are you using?

I've just started researching how to change a Pace Di4000N (NTL) using Red-eye with SageTV V2.20

Di4000N (NTL)

And the only way I could get it to work was with a usb-uirt (which you can only get from the states) or a Red-Rat - which is bloomin expensive.

Hi Didster

Is your USB-UIRT now working smoothly with Sage to change channels on your NTL STB?

Did you rule out the red-eye hardware for any reason or did you just pick the USB-UIRT?

Looks like you can order direct from the UK now.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

The only reasons I got a USBUIRT was 1) Price and 2) Not wishing to have to use Girder as well as. So I got a USBU as Sage talks to it directly.

Grr! Though mine only took 4 weeks to come, which isn't too bad.

Hi Didster

Can you confirm you're changing channels automatically on your Pace D4000N using Sage and it is working reliably?

If so, I'll give myself permission to buy one!

Did you have to do much work to get it running or is it fairly simple and well documented.

Thank in advance for any comments.

I can and I am.

It works well.

It was simple-ish to set up (though still IMHO harder than it should be).

I have it working direct from Sage with a USBU - I have also had it working via a RedRat (borrowed) and Girder - but the first way is def a lot easier

Thanks for the feedback.

Meanwhile I've taken the plunge and ordered the Red-eye kit
