Native Output Resolutions Switching

I am using the HD300 on a Panasonic TX-P42V20E plasma. It is working briantly, but just having doubts if I should enable Native Output Resolution Switching. Can someone please explain why and when I should use this option? Everything is working when disabled, but I would like to get the best picture quality possible. So that's why I am asking.

The main reason for using Native Output Switching: If your tv scales images better than your extender. Most newer (name brand) televisions have a pretty decent scaler that will take whatever resolution you are providing and scaling it up to meet the resolution of your tv.

The one downside can be the very short blackening of the image as the HDx00 switches resolutions to output.

It's all in what is most important to you and what looks best to you.

Thank you for the reply!

I actually think the upscaling from the HD300 is quite good compared to the TV itselfs. The resolution switching gets a bit annoying after a while so I disabled the option.

Only thing is that I would like to watch Blue Ray in 24 mode, so I have to change this manually I quess. Meaby I have to look for a plugin to enable this automatically :-)

Not 100% automatic but check VideoOut Tools for the HDx00. It replaces the video out button functionality during playback (popup dialog box rather then cycling through the resolutions). Unfortunately i think something is broken though in the latest releases of sage and I haven't had a chance to figure out what the problem is yet

Try enabling only 1080p and 1080p24 for output resolutions and enable Native Output switching.

It some ways "Native Output Switching" is a misnomer. What I mean is my Pioneer 51FD Blu-ray player has what it calls "Source Direct", same theory as Native Output Switching, but it's "true" native output, the 51FD switches to the output that exactly matches the input, regardless of the capabilities of the display device. So if you play a DVD, it outputs 480i regardless of if your display supports it.

Native Output Switching is a little more "Fuzzy", probably due in part to the fact that the HD300 supports a lot of weird formats that don't have a directly related output format.

So long story short, what the HD300 does when you have Native Output Switching enabled, is it picks a matching resolution if you have one enabled, and if you don't it outputs the highest resolution you have enabled.

I think if you just enable 1080p and 1080p24, the HD300 will output everything but 1080p24 content at 1080p60, and automatically switch to 1080p24 for that.

This is working just the way I want it to work. Thank you very much for this information!

Sorry for the necropost.

Does the HD300 resolution matching actually consider framerate? Does it do this in both media player and extender mode? I didn't think it did. I've got one on the way so I can't actually try this.

yes 1080p60 and 1080p24 are different for the resolution matching... i know this works in extender mode... havent tried it in stand alone mode but i imagine it does...

Great news! I should have also originally asked...
Does the HD300 in extender mode also differentiate between framerates for extra modes that you add?
