What is a STV or SMM

I am pretty new to SageTV and am working on lining up MyMovies with SageTV client/ server.

What are STVs and a SMM. I asume one is a database and the other maybe a version update, but can find nothing stating what the acronyms mean.

Any help is appreciated.

You posted this question in the Sage My Movies forum. So, SMM is Sage My Movies, which you can read all about via this sticky entitled "Setup and Wiki Read this thread first!!!"

The STV isn't quite so easy to decipher, though. The SageTV FAQ doesn't actually go into those details. An STV is a file which determines how SageTV looks and/or functions. There's a pretty decent explanation here, which explains the STV, STVi, and XML differences. Note that in V7 you really don't need to understand all of that anymore, since the plugin system makes installing and uninstalling infinitely easier. One thing that still holds true, though, is if you're having issues, ensure you uninstall all plugins before contacting SageTV, so that you know that one of the plugins isn't the cause of your problem. If it turns out to be one of the plugins, then post in the proper customization forum.

There is a FAQ for TLAs:

Is there some sort of reference for the various acronyms and terms used around here?

SMM isn't included in the topic the FAQ points to, but someone could add it.

I looked at that FAQ first and did a browser search on "STV", but it didn't turn anything up in the list of links, so I didn't find it. The only hit on the first page of the FAQ was related to closed captioning. I wouldn't have though to read through the entire FAQ to see if there might be something else which turned out to be related. The word "acronyms" never crossed my mind.
