SageTV on Whs Install Problems

Have been successfully running the SageTV7 Beta up to I think .21 on WHS. Have now installed the latest non Beta Version. At the end of installing the Add-In I get this message:
"Error 1920. Service 'SageTV' (SageTV) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

I can still start and stop other services and am logged in as Administrator.

When I go to Services and try to start it I get this:
"Could not start Service on local computer. Error 1053: The server did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

When I go to Services/SageTV Properties & click on OK or Apply I get:
"Services The specified service has been marked for deletion".

Under Add-Ins the old Ver. 6.6.2 still shows. When I try to Uninstall it it gives me "Uninstallation Failed".

What a mess!

Anybody have any ideas? Should I perhaps post this on a WHS forum?

Thanks for whatever help you can offer. We are sure missing SageTV!

Rod

I had an issue very similar to this and was able to fix it by restarting the WHS box. That essentially forced a re-set of all the services, and allowed me to successfully remove the v6.6.2 add-in that was constantly failing when I tried to do an upgrade.

Try this courtesy of Gerry. This has worked great for me in the past. Obviously, make certain Sage is shutdown completly including services.

PGPfan - Unfortunately restarting WHS didn't help, but thanks for your suggestion.

HuMan321 - I followed Gerry's procedure (the long one at the bottom of linked thread). It did get rid of the old version 6 for me which I'm glad of. But I still cant start the Service.

To update my original post here is where things now are:

Have been successfully running the SageTV7 Beta up to I think .21 on WHS. Have now installed the latest non Beta Version. At the end of installing the Add-In I get this message:
"Error 1920. Service 'SageTV' (SageTV) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

I can still start and stop other services and am logged in as Administrator.

When I go to Services and try to start it I get this:
"Could not start Service on local computer. Error 1053: The server did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

Anybody know what kind of things could prevent me from starting the Service?

Thanks for any ideas.

Did you change the log on account the SageTV Service uses? I changed mine to the Administrator account at some point and after installing one of the last betas, I got this same message. I changed the SageTV Service back to use the LocalSystem account, uninstalled and reinstalled the SageTV addin, and the error went away. But I'm not sure if the service user account had anything to do with it or if the uninstall/reinstall fixed something that got botched up.

Thanks Jason - I haven't made any changes to the Log On. When I do Properties on the Sage Service then LogOn it shows Local Account. I don't even see how I could do Administrator there. Actually if I knew how I would try that.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled several times as well as restarting several times.

Thanks again

Interesting thought! I did buy the upgrade. Since neither the Client nor the extenders can log on without the Service running I don't know how one would enter their license key if they shut us out that way. Also I don't think we are supposed to run Sage directly from WHS.

I sure do appreciate your trying though. I really appreciate any ideas.

Something weird is going on here!

Thanks

What happens if you try an run Sage.exe?

I read this as well
the status of the trial shows up on the Sage TV service tab on the WHS console in the licensing section.

YOU GOT IT!!!

I had previously bought SageTV 7 and thought I had entered the SN. Guess not, because it didn't have it. When I entered the SN all was well.

It would sure be nice if Sage would give an alert to this somehow. Would have saved a lot of grief.

Anyway I can't thank you enough for persevering with me on this.
