live transcoder using wrong aspect ratio

All,

I have placeshifter (and tried with an hd300 in placeshifter mode) doing live transcodes of some HD content over the internet. I tried setting both the placeshifter and hd300 aspect ratio to match source (it's regular TV HD content so its 16x9) but when I do that the content is displayed 4:3, I can then make it full screen by setting the Aspect Ratio Mode to "Fill", but am I now getting parts of the image chopped off?

What tuner are you using? If it is a HD-PVR then those are h.264 (.ts) file format and takes a lot of horsepower to transcode. Not everyone has a lot of luck with those. If it is mpeg2 format (HDHomerun for example.) they don't need to be transcoded and is only limited by your bandwidth. You can test Placeshifter on your local LAN and configure it to see if your server can transcode on the LAN. If it can't do it well on the LAN it won't get any better over the Interenet.

I'm just working with 720p mkv files now, not even using the tuner. I have plenty horsepower to transcode. I'm not experiencing any stuttering, it just looks like the picture is in the wrong aspect ratio and I'm wondering if the live transcoder is cutting off some of the picture.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I'm having a similar issue?

Thanks,

Bobby
