Are you 100% sure the issue is with the recording and not playback?
Have you played the file back with something like VLC?

Have you attempted to record with the software that came with the card?
When I remove the component cables and plug in the HDMI, everything is choppy/shuttering even after a reboot.

I get pictures and audio so I am pretty sure it not a DRM issue.

Strangest thing is

I borrowed a STB from my parent it an older model which used to be in the basement when I was living there a H21 model I think. When I use HDMI on that one, picture is perfect and everything works great.

When I plug HDMI into mine (I got married and moved out so we have our own Direct TV account now and newer STBs) f I remember right is a H24 model. Video and audio are choppy/shuttering.

i have a h21-100 and 2 h21-200s. With HDMI my system would crash/reboot in ~6 hours. BUT i found if i did 3 recordings at the same time, i could force the crash/reboot under an hour. Right before the crash the video/audio would get choppy. As much as I would like to try the newer drivers and use HDMI, test, etc etc, I'm taking the "why fix it, if its not broken" route. I dont need an angry wife .

Have you tried a different HDMI cord?
Also: On the DirecTV STB lock the resolution and play with the audio options to see if it helps. It may have a problem with the audio stream and I would start with 720p video and see if it helps.

I always have it lock at 720p but I can't what the audio is set at.

I am out of town and will look into it when I get back home

I am still using Colossus. One of the colossus kept having device not found failure when trying to record a show once a while and I kept thinking that Colossus is going bad. Even with my nightly reboots.

Last week I lost my DirectTV http tuning due to power going out and back and out again for an hour. I couldn't get my http tuning working again no matter what I did.

So I completely reinstall SageTV and added the http tuning back in then it started tuning the DirectTV boxes again. Only thing I restored was wiz.bin back into the SageTV. Evething else been left at default for now since with new open source so I thought I would go ahead and start clean again.

But the strangest thing, it no longer having issues and I haven't restore my nightly reboots yet and the Gemstone templates. Also I did not add any of the plugins back in yet either.

It seem to be humming along smoothly no choppy video yet for almost a week now. I am still on component so I have not tried HDMI yet but I plan to soon.

Make sure all your DirectTV boxes that included Sat Power Brick common as Power Inserter are on batties backup.
But over time SageTV can get little flake so ever now then reinstall may help
There are few key line you want to copy and replace in the new install Sage.properties beside copy over the old wiz.bin after you got everything up and running by default setup
Stop SageTV Service or close SageTV from running from your old Sage.properties get the stuff after the line
seeker/archive_directory=
seeker/video_storage=
uptime=
Paste in the new Sage.properties
Fine all delay_to_wait_after_tuning= (change it to from 4000 to 6000 or even 8000) this work better with HD-PVR 1&2 and Colossus 1&2 model which help with audio switch problem when going from 2.0 to 5.1.

I have not made any of those changes yet but I probably will have to if I start using HDMI from DirectTV to Colossus.

So far it running stable with no reboot yet.

Strange .... In the past I had to do nightly reboots.

It didn't last very long like before. About an hour and half into the show it started to freezing so I went back to component cables again.

I am hoping to get HDMI stable because I suspect the colossus component adapter that one of the wiring is starting to break on it own weight.

The component cable itself is laying flat not putting any weight on it so it the thin wire from the adapter breaking on it own weight somehow. I had to jiggle it to get my colors back in sync.

Funny thing about the Colossus is that when it get choppy and only rebooting SageTV will fix it. I would switch over to one of the HDHomerun channels and their video playback is still smooth.

Hopefully since SageTV is now open source that a solution will be found some day to eliminate the need of nightly reboots.

I am running the Colossus 2 recording DirecTV over HDMI with 5.1 AC3, which has had some issues but not nearly as many as I had with the Colossus 1.

I've continued to make small changes here and there in my setup to experiment and see if they make any difference in eliminating the occasional recording glitch (which was happening in about 1 out of 10-15 recordings). The most recent switch I made was from CBR to VBR, and I haven't had a bad recording since making this switch a couple weeks ago.

CBR (had problems):

mmc/python2_encoding/Colossus\ Max\ Constant\ Rate=videobitrate\=13000000|vbr\=0|outputstreamtype\=1

VBR (no problems, knock on wood):

mmc/python2_encoding/Colossus\ Max\ Variable\ Rate=videobitrate\=8000000|vbr\=1|peakvideobitrate\=13000000|outputstreamtype\=1

That why I ask becuases far I know of both HD-PVR 2 and Colossus 2 don't work in CBR nor dose with VBR work rigth you can only set the videobitrate and will stick to VBR mode but only 1Mbps above with peakvideobitrate 9Mbps as it wil not be 13Mbps.
SageTV it self need a lot of fixing on the Windows side of things but most part it still works.
