Just to confirm, I have colossus working with directv using HDMI for audio and video using ethernet tuning, and it is working really well. Tuning seems to be faster and I have been watching it all day and not had any issues with video or audio. Picture also seems to be better using the hdmi connection..
Thanks, Jeff |

I have had video freeze twice this afternoon while my GF was watching live TV via the Colussus. Luckily all I had to do each time was stop and then start again. No resetting or anything.
I have Cox cable but I'm thinking about trying the HDMI later tonight just in case. S |

DirecTV H20 working over HDMI. Picture quality is noticeably improved. Now wishing I had ordered two with the Facebook deal.

I am shocked as well that the HDMI works from DirecTV/Dish and happy for you guys. This is a great way to hook it up.
However, it does highlight the futility in all of it. You have a hardworking processor in the DirecTV STB sucking up electricity and generating heat to decode the H.264 stream to a digital picture signal over HDMI, and another hardworking processor in the Hauppauge Colossus sucking up electricity and generating heat to re-encode that digital picture signal back to an H.264 stream. How pointless and inefficient. It offends me as an engineer that it has to work this way. |

Edit: Even if I could get HDMI working, I'd be afraid that some DirecTV software update would kill it while I was out of town or something.

Then second STB I tested was H24-200 STB, all I was getting either blue or black screen and no audio. So I set the H24-200 to No Native and at 720P only then it start giving me video and audio. I can't confirm how good the audio is because I'm Deaf but picture is very clear. Bill

I have two Colossus working with H21-100 and HR21-200 Directv boxes. Both receivers work over HDMI but when they are set to output Dobly Digital 5.1 the picture is good but I just get a buzzing on the audio. Reset to stereo output they work on HDMI but I want the DD so am back to component.
FWIW, I have plugged and unplugged the optical, HDMI and component cables to see how it responds and in each case it recovers after a bit when plugged back in. I replaced two HD-PVR's which regularly crashed for me in BeyondTV so have switched to Sage and won't be going back. Dave |

I have a question that's a bit off topic but somewhat related to the Colossus. In one of his posts on this thread, SHS indicated that the Colossus uses a different encoder chip that the HD-PVR. Judging by the screencap posted comparing the Colossus and HD-PVR the Colossus produces a better picture. Does anyone know if Hauppauge will redesign the HD-PVR with the new encoder chip?
I just bought a HD-PVR and want to know whether I should return it while I still can and wait for a HD-PVR with the new encoder chip. My HTPC is old and only has AGP/PCI slots not PCIe so I can't use the Colossus. I don't want to spend the money to build a new HTPC as this one does everything I want it to do and money is tight right now. |
