I can assure you Dave, if SHS says it's for real and it's coming from Hauppauge - it's for real! He's got friends within Hauppauge and has been on the inside track of upcoming products from them for years.
Worry not, it's for real and it IS coming soon! -PGPfan

I have been incredibly fortunate with my HD PVR once I got it working right... it's never missed a channel change or recording But I am interested in this as an additional device.

Man, I can't wait for this to come out. Hopefully before income tax return time. I will be upgrading my system then so that I can retire my Tivo and get rid of the monthly payments

I'm actually quite interested in this depending on the price. Mostly because of the MPEG2 capability. Being able to capture to MPEG2 rather than H.264 would be much quicker to run through Show Analyzer.

I was told today that it only going to do AVC "H.264" encoding up to 1080i but transcoder should do anything to anything.

That's a disappointment, but you can speed up the Comskipping with faster CPUs and offloading the processing to secondary computers. The most important aspect is if the flakyness and unreliable functionality of the HD-PVR is resolved with the new product.

Yeah, I was kind of inspired by the fact that it "would" capture in mpeg2 format. That to me seemed to be a huge benefit more than anything...

Well this good news after all when ask any reason to why no support for MPEG-2 encoding.
(reply back) There is no reason why a software developer such as SageTV or GBPVR would not support HD MPEG-2 recording, but the software which Hauppauge provides will most likely not support MPEG-2. |

But wouldn't the drivers (from Hauppauge) need to support MPEG2 output to begin with?
Personally I don't think MPEG2 is a big deal, but agree it would be nice and given that a 2tb hard drive can be had for $70, I'd probably use it. |

From what SHS is talking about, Hauppauge is stating their capture software will probably not do MPEG2, but at the same time are hinting to the drivers supporting it as long as venders like SageTV and Myth etc..... write the right hooks into the driver.

Yeah, my guess is they're just going to ship TME with it, and it's not set up to do MPEG-2 profiles. If this is true, it's really good news for Sage and GBPVR because it would imply that the interface is either identical or very near to the USB HD PVR.

That's great news that mpeg2 would work since disk is cheap now and will be even cheaper in the future. Now, the only unknown left is the reliablity.

Is there any information about the release date, such as the month or quarter for the release? Is general information about the price?
