They can't make one that does that because of exactly the reason you want it. There's literally no lawful use for such a device, so it would run afoul of the DMCA.

So is there a device that take an encrypted signal and then decrypts it?

There probably will be, they have compromised the HDCP keys. So it's probably a matter of time.

You won't find it for sale in the US, that's for sure.

I've been reading availability as late January for this product has anybody else heard otherwise? I'm in desperate need to add a tuner to my setup (I only have 1 so far). I would prefer this over the HD PVR due to those lock up issues that happen from time to time. Assuming of course this card can fix it(my guess is it will have its own issues initially). I'm really leaning on just getting another HD PVR, judging from past experience on waiting for products, I could be waiting for months...

Most of the world isn't subject to the DMCA - here in Canada for example.

You're right, but the politicians are doing everything they can to cater to big business, including putting DMCA-like laws in foreign negotiations and doing their best to hide it. Check out ACTA's progress and history overseas. Beyond that, though, I was thinking that the makers of the HDFury were based in the US. (Not sure why, though, we don't make anything here... except laws.) If they were based in the US, they'd be sued off the face of the earth for a device like was discussed. Checking on their domain, it would appear that they are not based in the US, however, so, while it would be more difficult, I doubt that they'd escape the reach of all lawsuits. Where there are deep pockets, there are lawyers and politicians with their hands out.

But that hasn't stopped deCSS software, etc. You can still buy AnyDVD and AnyDVDHD over the net even though they appear to be highly illegal in the US. And judging from the amount of BluRay rips one can find on the net, a lot of people have bought this type of software.

It not illegal to sell software becuases there from Ireland and don't really get pay in USA dallor but in stead you pay in EUR same gose with DVDfab it in China both them do what know as Currency Conversion.
Also for DMCA keep in mind that only apply to USA copyright law
Also keep in mind that HDCP build in ever Set-top boxes, DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players, and even Computer Video cards with a source HDMI transmitter which is world wide so it don't matter where your at it enable and has been for time got love riaa, mpaa and intel for this carp.

HDCP is not a law or mandate yet but they are being force to add chip with it.
All it dose removing the digital rights management from the original signal in order to be able to view it on non-HDCP compliant HDTV.
I do belive HDFury was base in USA at frist but end up moving to Ireland.

A post on Hauppauge's Facebook page from 4 days ago indicates that they are expecting to start shipping around Feb 10 - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...88024431224610

We typically start to take orders two weeks before the initial ship date. We expect Colossus to ship around Feb 10 so I would expect the Hauppauge webstore will have a "Buy" link around Jan. 26

I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah I'll believe that fen ship date when I see it. I'll set my expectations for the march(late) time frame. Although I do hope to be proven wrong. But even it does come early feb, their is always the possibility of bugs that have to get ironed out, which still puts you towards end of march.

Like I said in a couple of threads up, these mfr rarely make dates they talk Bout during CES. I said before I was settig my expectation for late march. But I'm moving it to summer time(possibly the end). If I were u guys I would do the same, otherwise you'll have some broken hearts. And if it comes earlier it just becomes a nice surprise. This is why I agree with why Sage or Apple dont announce anything til it's damn near ready to be shipped.
