Is it possible for the hd300 to read metadata files? If so , how?

I don't think it does meta-data in stand alone mode. It is supposed to do cover art from folder.jpg files. Sadly getting answers on this forum is like pulling teeth, it's pretty sad really.

Mine shows album art on audio flac files, but I haven't figure out how to get cover art into my BD & DVD iso files. (I tried using mymovies collection management to no avail, but I really have no idea what I'm doing yet.)

If anyone can help in that regard I'd really appreciate it, and would be pleasantly surprised to boot!

Thanks for your reply. I thought I read in a review some place that there was a limited capacity for meta-data viewing in standalone mode. I must have misunderstood. That said I am not sure meta-data is really all that important.

wow, that's pretty harsh, and completely not what I've experienced here over MANY years. You will definitely get a slower response here in the SageTV HD Theater - Media Player forum, as I really don't think all that many people use them in Standalone mode, but compared to just about ANY other user forum I've been on, this is by far the most helpful.

As for the metadata in standalone mode, I'm pretty sure it doesn't support it out of the box. That said, it IS fully extend-able, so someone COULD generate a UI mod for standalone mode that would bring in the metadata - but that kind of goes along with the previous point - most don't use it in standalone mode (other than occasionally when taken away fro the SageTV server), so there isnt' much drive for someone to go through the effort.

Is this where I insert my 'If you have an HD300 WITHOUT SageTV software, you're doing it wrong' comment?

Really? I've posted three question threads and got exactly ZERO replies.

Odd, when this section is supposed to be about using it in standalone mode that the most common answer I see is "I (or many) don't use it in stand alone mode."

I don't have a computer in my HT and I intend to keep it that way, having a streaming device pulling off my NAS is as far as it'll go. I think this is, or will be, a very comon market and perhaps companies like Sage should be looking to enhance their products with a better GUI's for that purpose.

I bought the Sage because it is reasonable in stand alone, well that and source direct video, HD audio bitstreaming, and BD iso support.

I know from review pics of the stand alone GUI that folder.jpg cover art does work for dvd & bd rips, I have no idea how to get those in there on my NAS so they work with the Sage.

I hate to prove your point, but 'I don't use my HD300 in stand alone mode'

However, I do use cover art on my server (I know we are talking about stand alone). I have each of my movies in DVD or Blu-Ray structure, and each movie is in its own subdirectory. For cover art, there is one Folder.jpg in each subdirectory. So, for the DVD 'Knight and Day', there is a single directory called 'Knight and Day' with 3 things in it: the VIDEO_TS folder, the AUDIO_TS folder, and the Folder.jpg.

Do you have each ISO in its own folder? If so, try puting the Folder.jpg in the subfolder with it on your NAS. Also, try naming the cover art the same as the iso. For instance, KnightAndDay.iso and KnightAndDay.jpg. I think I read somewhere that for single file movies, the artwork is the same name as the file instead of folder.jpg.

The problem is, there really aren't answers for most of those questions - or the answer is 'no, that doesn't work in stand-alone mode'.

Standalone reads metadata from properties files, similar to how the SageTV software does.

Standalone does not generate thumbnails, but you can add thumbnails.

I don't believe metadata is covered in the SageTV v7 PDF manual, but video thumbnails are covered starting on p. 97. If you don't have the SageTV software installed, the full manual can be downloaded from the SageTV downloads page or see my sig lines.

Well, even that answer is actually heplful.

I think a lot of people in the know on these streaming, and streaming device forums come at this through the computer media side of things and have a much better knowledge base than guys like me coming almost "backwards" from the finished product in the HT.
What may seem like trivial stuff to you guys is a mind-f*** to some of us LOL!
