Can XBOX360 be made to connect to sagetv as a client without the use of playon.

I don't know how to connect to SageTV with Playon. I think Playon will only deliver online content like Hulu and Netflix.

You can map your Recorded TV Library under the MCE video library and play recorded content on the Xbox360 but you will loose the metadata(Description information) and can not watch live TV or even schedule recording.

Added: I should point out you can watch TV as it is being recorded you just can't initiate the recording form MCE.

That is my understanding as well - that you need to set up media center to make it work. I played with it a little before the HD100 came out, and as soon as I tried the HD100, I discontinued playing with it.

I was thinking the same thing, I was throwing it out there just in case someone had devised a way to do it utilizing the database.

Why would you want to. Xbox 360's craPpy codec support doesn't compared to sagetv hd300. As well as I am pretty sure xbox
Can't do java so don't see it ever happening.

Son has an xbox in his bedroom and a pc client, If I could use the xbox to playback sage content, I could reduce the number of devices in his room.

As long as you don't care about live TV and all the metadata it will work but you have to setup MCE somewhere.

I have MCE installed on the same Win7 PC as my SageTV server. I even have a OTA tuner card assigned to MCE while the Sage box uses two HD-PVRs and a HDHR tuner. If you run Playon he will also be able to get Hulu, Netflix etc. It is not ideal but it will work.
