Does anyone have this Hauppauge remote?

I have been reading this forum, trying to figure out which remote control to use with SageTV. It seems like the one that came with my Hauppauge WinTV HVR-2250 might be easiest/best, but in reading the SageTV manual, I noticed that the one I have looks completely different than the one shown in the manual. I also noticed some posts here that suggested that it uses the Philips RC5 codeset, but the biggest letters on the back of my remote are, "RC6". So now I am wondering if the remote I have uses the same codes as the one included among the SageTV configuration options and described in the manual.

Do any of you guys have this one? If so, does it work the same as the one described in the manual?

I believe that is a Windows MCE compatable remote. If so, you can select it directly for controlling SageTV, at least for the Client on the Server/Client machine. However, you will not be able to use the MCE blaster (if you have one) without third party software such as LM Remote - look for posts by StephaneM.

MCE remotes work great for sage. I have a gyration one and it is awesome.

I find the standard Hauppauge remote to be by far the most ergonomic and convenient remote for SageTV. The playback controls are under the thumb and the most frequently used keys are nearby. And, like this remote, the keys aren't all the same size so you can be sure of the key you're choosing by touch.

Well, maybe so, but that's what they shipped in the box with the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-2250, so that seems confusing...I'll search for StephaneM's posts though...thanks!

For what it's worth, I tried this remote with SageTV, which is configured for the Hauppauge 45 button remote, and it seemed to work okay. I didn't try all of the buttons though, because at that particular time I couldn't afford to have it unexpectedly shut down the machine...like the SageTV media extender remote did. I wonder if that means that the Hauppauge remote uses some of the same codes as the MCE remote...(?)

I used to have a Gyration keyboard and air mouse...I liked it a lot, although it didn't have quite enough range to make it across my home theater.

Tell me about it... I had used my HD PVR remote for a while and then bought a Harmony One. Had some speed issues with the Harmony One and I've found myself not in a big hurry to fix it because it just doesn't feel or work as nice as the "crappy" standard ole Hauppauge remote. LOL That's pretty sad... have this nice expensive remote but doesn't actually "function" as well as the old Hauppauge For one, I like have the right, left, up, down buttons as separate buttons and the Harmony One has this more as one big "rocker" type button. I am finding myself to not like that as much.

I have a gyration as well... but many of the buttons still launch MCE... did you have to do something special to map it over to Sage?

I have several Harmony remotes as they are great to control multiple devices like a Sage extender, AVR, Xobx, cable box, DVD, TV, etc. In terms or ergonomics - I like the Series 1 TiVo peanut remote:

I still think that is the best for someone who is constantly playing with the transport controls - like when I watch a sporting event.

It isn't a hauppauge 45 button remote. It is an mce remote. Choose that config and it will work better.

I uninstalled media center. No issues with that. Also, you can use the old sage tray application to block mce from receiving commands from the mce button. I don't know if it is compatible with sage v7 or not.

I have use that remote interchangeably with my older Hauppauge 45-button remotes.
There is a file in your Windows folder that gets installed by Hauppuage that maps the remote buttons (Sage also modifies this file when you first install Sage). You may need to edit this file to get the desired results. I have attached a copy of mine (I re-named it with a *.txt extension so that I could post it to the forum - you will need to strip off the ".txt" extension before pasting it to your windows folder).

You can edit it with any text editor (e.g. Notepad). You can also add custom sections for controlling other applications with your remote. There are lots of comments in the file, so you can probably figure out how it works.

Be sure to make a backup of your original file before replacing it.
