HD-300 having problems playing back DD+ audio track

I'm converting my HD DVD's to mkv and am having problems with the DD+ (E-AC3) track playing back properly.

I have the HD-300 set to use HDMI 1.3 Audio Bitstream for its output to an Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver.

I also have and HD-200 hooked up to an older crt that plays the DD+ track fine, so I believe the files getting muxed into the mkv container is working fine.

What I end up hearing and seeing is that the receiver switch to DD+ mode plays for a second or two, cuts back out, then switches to DD+ mode again over and over.

I have already successfully converted all my HD DVD's that have TrueHD audio tracks and they work fine playing through my receiver. Any ideas what the issue may be here?

I had the same problem with my Denon AVR-891, turns out that if I set the HD300 video out to < 1080p ie 1080i or 720 it works great.
The 891 does video upscaling to 1080p so I still end up with 1080p video
but the audio info isn't munged.

I had seen a post somewhere here about setting the video lower than 1080p and I thought I tried it and still had the issue. I'll give it another go this morning to be sure that it didn't fix my problem.

I've been converting my HDDVDs to blu-ray file format and my Onkyo TX-NR708 and HD-300 have had no issues handling the DD+ audio. Overall I've found that converting to the blu-ray file format has just worked better versus mkv. I had some problems with subtitles and forced subtitles with mkv.

I have just attempted to play an mkv with a DD+ audio track using the "HDMI 1.3 Bitstream" and got no audio. My receiver indicates that it is trying to decode a DD+ track, but the lights that show the encoded input channels (i.e., L/C/R/SR/SL) flicker and there is no sound.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

Regarding converting to a Blu-Ray: I have done that with all my HD-DVDs that featured lossless audio. However, I was under the impression that the Blu-Ray standard does not spec DD+ the same way that HD-DVD did. Whenever I've used ClownBD to convert an HD-DVD to Blu-Ray, it transcodes the DD+ audio into PCM. For HD-DVDs that only featured DD+ audio, I used mkv in order to keep the streams intact.

I'm also experiencing this same issue with DD 5.1 mkvs on my HD300 (plays perfect on an HD200).

Changing the output from 1080p to 1080i seems to fix the issue (I didn't watch the whole movie so I can't confirm this completely). Does anyone know if Sage is aware of this issue so we can get it patched in an update?

Thanks for the workaround/fix jchisholm, at least the movie is watchable now.
