how do you rip your dvds for sage?

I recently switched from Win7mc and used to use Auto Rip n Compress. I have to admit, it was nice to have everything done with the click of a button. I am curious what most Sage users are doing. What format do you rip? What program do you use? I am not someone that needs the complete folder structure of a DVD, but I don't mind it if it is the best option. I like the idea of having a mp4 or avi cause i can easily stick it on the wife's phone for road trips.

my setup:

Win7pro "server/client" w/bluray player
3 - hd3000 extenders
Sage mymovies is installed and that's about it. I have it working but haven't done much with it. I am kinda spoiled from Media Browser in 7mc.

Thanks in Advance!!!

I usually just copy the whole disc... but i feel drive space is cheap, and I don't take them anywhere. If I was to be putting them into a single file, it'd probably be a single MKV with MakeMKV, choosing just the audio track i need.

I use AnyDVDHD and DVDClone2. DVDClone2 removes the other languages and stuff I don't care much about. I maintain normal DVD file structure and rip to DVD5. The DVD5 saves me some space and there isn't a huge hit in quality. Hard drives are cheap but I have a large collection. On some DVDs I do just "drag and drop" them using Windows Explorer with AnyDVDHD running in the background but most time use DVDClone2.

MakeMKV is a nice solution. It will give you an uncompressed MKV with your selected audio and subtitles. If you need further compression I would look into EP's MediaShrink: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...05&postcount=1

I don't usually compress all of my content mostly kids movies and some of the wife's romantic comedies So, using MediaShrink to cherry pick ones here and there is quick and easy drag and drop.

I'd use the MKV container, especially if you use Windows or extenders. It supports chapters, multiple audio & subtitle tracks.

* MakeMKV for an uncompressed (or, no more compressed) single file solution of your DVD.
* HDConvertToX or HandBrake are my preferences for an x264 front end to get file size down.
* And I know you don't want it, but DVD Rebuilder is by far the best solution to shrink a DVD9 down to a single-layer DVD5 for the purpose of reburning it to a disc. (Posting for completeness)

In any and all cases, I'd recommend buying AnyDVD. It's the best option for headache-free decrypting.

I do basically the same thing for movies, except with AnyDVD and DVD Shrink, and I don't do any recompressing at all.

WHS, MyMovies, and AnyDVD. Just put the DVD or Blu-Ray in the drive and that's it. Disk space is cheap so I don't worry about ripping out the extras.
