It would appear that it's not following the "ignore in/definite articles" flag. At least, it's not doing it for movies starting with "The". After "Supercarrier", I have "The Andromeda Strain", followed by a ton of movies beginning with "The", all in alphabetical order. Then, after "The World is Not Enough", I have "Time After Time". I looked through my list again and also noticed that "A Christmas Story" was listed under "A", rather than "C", so it's not isolated to "The".
I could see that being true. I will have to look at the code and see what the story is.

EDIT: I also just realized that imported movies aren't showing in the movie grouping. Has it always been that way? Now that it (mostly ) sorts alphabetically, we were starting to use that over the Videos screen for imported movies.
Yup its always been that way. By design only imported videos with a mediatype=TV will be shown by TVE.

Okay, here is an update. I did not adjust my Heap Size (mainly I didn't want to take the time to learn how to even do that.). I preferred to try to discover why the problem suddenly popped up after several years of no problem. So I asked what was I doing differently. In the past, I would start playback of recorded TV shows by going to TV/Recordings/Customized Recordings (interestingly Titled "SageTV Recordings"). There the recorded shows are listed alphabetically (my choice) and I would simply go down the long list and choose the show/episode I wished to watch.

Recently, I switched to Options/SageTV Recording (Interestingly Titled "TV Explorer"). There the shows are listed by date recorded a much more desirable option. At this screen the display would show the "Series' Artwork," a nice touch. I noticed, however, that this "artwork display" was very erratic -- some would show others would be a blank and not in a consistent way -- meaning that as I cycled down the list the Artwork would turn off and on as I landed on a show but not in a predictable way.

Anyway, when I selected a show from the "SageTV Recordings (TV Explorer?) and deleted the show after watching, the program would crash (with the earlier mentioned Memory Overflow).

Therefore, I went back to selecting the shows from the Customized Recordings (SageTV Recordings?) and have had no issues of any kind for the past two days - of extensive use.

Can you turn on sage debug logging on the server and then post the log after you reproduce the hang / memory overflow error (probably need to zip the log)? I'm struggling to see how the things i changed in the code will cause a memory error but i could be wrong... Also have you upgraded to the latest phoenix? There have been 2 TVExplorer updates recently... one was to handle the latest phoenix.. the other (latest) was to fix a potential hang upon playback stopped and returning to TVE.

I can quickly answer the Phoenix question:

Phoenix API - v2.3.59
Phoenix Core Services - v2.3.59
Phoenix for Malore Menues - v1.02 Beta
Phoenix for SageTV v7 - v1.0.9

The Log and intentionally crashing may take a day or so (maybe less).

Since google code is now defunct, what are the odds of this getting moved or can the installer be pointed to the code archive?

Just tried updating to v9 again and TVE is the sticking point. I don't see a way to install it.

Pretty sure all you do is install it from the plugin UI mod section.

I'll have to take a closer look at the logs then because that method obviously didn't work or I wouldn't have posed the question. With all the repository moves and plugin installation failures as of late, combined with panteragstk's post, I thought this might be a plugin which hadn't been moved yet.

I installed it last night and it worked just fine - but that was not on a clean system, so it might be a dependency that it uses that is no longer available, that I for some reason already had installed (though my server was just setup about 2 months ago).

EDIT: just tried it on a clean test system, and it still downloaded all the dependencies properly.

Thanks for the followup, Fuzzy. I'll have to dig into the logs and see what went wrong then. Maybe something went wrong with my upgrade from v7 to v9.

It could simply have been a given source was slow so it timed out downloading a file (happens often with sourceforge). You can often retry installing a plugin and it will succeed.

I didn't give up that easily. I even reverted to v7 and then back to v9 and it still failed, so I was trying for about 45 minutes before giving up. I suppose there could've been an extended outage. After 4.5 hours of trying to get v9 working, I gave up and have no desire to rush into trying it again. Maybe next week.

Perhaps you have been affected by the issue in 9.0.8.423 that stuckless now fixed with 9.0.8.429 that was related to plugin installs.

The Windows installer files for 9.0.8.429 are uploading (slowly) as we speak!

Well, wouldn't that just be my luck! I finally decide to try v9 again, several months after my last failed attempt, and some major bug messes everything up. Thanks for the heads up on this issue. I was having quite a few issues updating plugins after the upgrade, so this could very well be the cause. I'll probably give it another shot next week.

I would give it another try because I've started using v9 and TVE installed for me without issue. It was on a windows client as well as the linux docker.

Hopefully your issue is related to the bug mentioned above.

I found some time today and it went off almost without a hitch. (Forgot that I needed Java 1.8 for the latest BMT.)

Thanks for the pointers, everyone.
