commercial cutting w/Comskip and Videoredo (similar to BeyondTV)
When I was using BeyondTV, one of the regular posters on the Snapstream forums posted some great details on getting comskip working with Videoredo to:
- run comskip post-recording - comskip marks the commercials - that's fed to a Videoredo Project file (or it was created in the process) - Videoredo would then cut the commercials and rewrite the MPG I think the key here was an XML file that would get monitored by the BeyondTV process and, if present, would execute. Does SageTV have any functionality like that or a plug in like that and, if so, is there a pointer? I'm trying to make this my video workflow: - record show - run comskip - run Videoredo and cut commercials - convert remaining MPG to iPhone/iPad format - copy to iTunes library Is this possible with SageTV? Thanks.

Videoredo using VAP and Comskip
Zone99,
Have you looked at VideoRedo and the VAP accessory? It's a real GEM! In this case you don't have to manually do anything. I'm not sure about your step #4, but 1 thru 5 are all covered with VideoRedo and VAP using either VideoRedo's commercial zapper (it's actually quite good) or optionally Comskip which gets installed with the VAP add on. - record show - run comskip - run Videoredo and cut commercials - convert remaining MPG to iPhone/iPad format <---NOT SURE WILL LOOK - copy to iTunes library A lot of people don't know about VAP. It completely changes (enhances a lot) the function of VideoRedo with regard to removing commercials automatically in the background. I am just not sure about the step of duplicating it in the Iphone/Ipad format. My wife has an Ipad and what I did for that was instead of getting into the time consuming process of converting and copying video to the stubborn Apple formats, we got playon from Media Mall and use the remote access feature to play ALL of our videos on the road and without wasting time on conversion/copying and the cumbersome Itunes setup. So, in a nutshell... Look at VideoREdo and the VAP module (and comskip comes with VAP) Look at mediamall's playon and check out the IPAD app for it. It's pretty easy to set up, you just run it and it figures it out. Then when on the road, you just use playon to watch any of your library media that you tell Playon to monitor and you don't have to convert anything. That's how it should be in my book Videoredo/Vap is here: http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/sh...ad.php?t=26288 Playon is here: http://www.playon.tv/ Keep in mind, playon isn't free but it's cheap and you might find it does a lot more than just give you access to your media. SInce you already have VideoReo you won't have to buy it but download VAP free from them. I know there are free solutions out there too but frankly they take so much time to get working and keep working it's not worh it, at least not in my book. Bill |

I to am a BTV convert and yes it's possible but a couple of plugins are required. Sage Job Que would be the way to start. It can be setup to run comskip, VRD and to manage file locations. Media Shrink can be incorporated to convert to Iphone/Ipad. The learning curve is there but when fully integrated is ultra flexible. Mike |

Thanks for the tips.
I already have VideoReDo plus and just downloaded VAP. The part I'm trying to figure is the Comskip part. I use the Commercial Detector plug in and Comskip playback. That works for marking out commercials. With BTV, I had it creating the project file for Video Redo automatically. It sounds like I need SJQ to run Comskip and generate the right project file for Video Redo? Time to read some directions.

In the comskip.ini file set this:
output_videoredo=1 This will generate your VideoRedo project files for you. Gerry
