Help Needed For Newb
Hello all. Great forum. I'll get right to the point.
I just started my free 21 day trial of SageTV about a week ago and I have only one question...so far. First a little background on my simple setup. Goal: 1. Eliminate Cox cable for TV by utilizing SageTV for TV Recording via (1) HD HomeRun in QAM (installed and working great) Server is an WinXP Pro OS AMD Athlon II x2 1 x 80 gb HDD where OS & SageTv is installed 1 x 1 TB HDD Storage drive 4 Gb Ram My question is this: Is there any way to set up STV to send all my recorded content to the 1 TB drive instead of the 80 Gb drive? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Then just add a directory on your 1TB drive. If you share it on your network you might want to use UNC paths to make access for plugins on client PCs easier (like I have done in the graphic). |

Welcome to the SageTV forum!
If you haven't done so already, you should setup disk imaging and store the images on your second drive. If your computer system that is used for SageTV fails, you then can easily recover back to a point in time when everything worked. There are free disk imaging programs like Partition Image is Not Ghost, PING and pay versions like Acronis True Home 2011. Acronis has much more reliable recoveries than PING and is worth the small cost. Maybe Cox cable will keep clearQAM. Comcast has been eliminating clearQAM from all their cable systems to increase their bottom line. If clearQAM goes away from your cable system in the future, you can still use the HDHomerun for local over the air digital signals. At that point in time, you would need another capture device for the output of a set top cable box. If like movies, PlayOn is a great addition to SageTV. It will allow you to watch Netflix instant streamed movies and some cable channels. I plan to drop most of cable in several months when the contract ends since we watch mainly locals or movies. The Netflix movie selection is vastly superior to cable or satellite and much cheaper. However, it requires a subscription to both PlayOn and Netflix. Dave |
