I'm curious if the batch can be used to trigger Sage to play back?
I'd have the batch check for the presence of 'dvdfab.miniso' and if it isn't there Sage would play it.
Then I'd only create a miniso file on a 3D blu-ray - the rest could play directly in Sage.

You could likely figure out a URL to pass to the Sagex HTTP API via a wget command, but that's about the only way I can think of a batch file starting playback in a SageTV context. Probably the better option, and what I do, is to only rip 3D blurays to ISO, and the rest to main movie .mkv - then the external program is only run for the .iso's.

So.. Does it work?

Can someone confirm if the HD300 actually can play 3D or not?

Has anyone ACTUALLY ripped a 3D Blu-Ray and converted it to a AVI format than can be played correctly in good quality full 3D HD via the HD300?

If so, can they outline the tools need and process?

Currently, for 2D, I use MakeMKV to rip and then Handbrake to encode, and this works prefectly! I hope it's possible to do something the same for 3D and play via the HD300!

Come on someone, give me some good news!

It handles Side by Side MKV's just fine. You do need to be able to put the TV into SBS mode manually for this to work. I have done a few rips with DVDFab which supports ripping into SBS format. It takes a lot of time to do a rip but they look great. I havent tried any other software but I am sure there are other methods.

thanks for the reply...

but when it does the side by side mode... what resolution is that?

Is is 1920x1080 (two 960x1080 images SBS, scaled up)

or

Is is 3840x1080 (two full HD 1920x1080 images SBS)

I hope its the second option!!

No, it's the first (960x1080). You'd be surprised how much you don't notice the degradation in resolution though. The 3D ends up sort of smoothing out the experience. The TV won't accept 3840x1080 anyway.

Ok, so I can only do 960x1080 with SBS via the HD300?

I'm looking to play these on a big HD screen via projector so was hoping to keep full HD and have 3D. There is just no option to do this with the HD300?

Ok, if I can't use the HD300, what is the best alternate option for this?

1. Is there another good device that I can plug into my projectors HDMI that would let me play a ripped 3DBR in full 1920x1080 3D?

2. Currently I use MakeMKV and handbrake to rip my BR library down to a decent size file and still keep good 1920x1080 quality. What options do I have to reduce file size and still keep image quality for my 3D avi files?

I would love it if something like this;

Could play a 3D BR rip in full HD! or even if you could have SageTV client for it!!!

Now, That would be good!!!

A small AMD A6 based PC running TMT5 should play 3D blurays quite well, in full 1080p24x2.

As for reducing file size, MakeMKV actually makes the video quite a bit larger than the original bluray structure. This is due to the way the MVC codec works (Left Eye is full H.264, Right eye is just the difference from the Right eye). Your process ends up forcing it into two full H.264 streams, making it quite a bit larger. Best way would probably be to just keep the bluray in ISO format, and run it in TMT5. That will keep it around 40-some GB per disc, and maintain full quality.
