Arrow HOWTO: Install SageTV PlaceShifter on Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop 32-Bit

Greetings,

Here's a simple HOWTO on setting up PlaceShifter on Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop 32-bit. It doesn't go into any configuration detail and is mainly here as a helpful guide on installing Sun's JRE, dependencies, and the SageTV client.

This guide assumes you have installed Ubuntu onto a PC or VM (Useful for testing) and that basic functionality is present.

NOTE: The link for SageTV is current at the time of this writing.
  1. Open a terminal window
  2. Run these commands:
    Code:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ maverick partner"
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
    sudo update-alternatives --config java
    java -version #To Confirm
    sudo apt-get install libfaac0 #SageTV Dependency
    wget http://download.sage.tv/linuxweb/sagetv-client_7.0.23_i386.deb
    sudo dpkg -i ./sagetv-client_7.0.23_i386.deb
  3. Launch SageTV
  4. Enjoy!
