Lightbulb ffdshow for audio too

sitting here being bored, i got to wondering how i could up the volume of my output just a bit more.

so i thought, if mlbdude could just add a line to the properties file for ffdshow to work with video, why couldnt i do the same for audio, and get ffdshow to process my audio, (then i could use ffdshows normalization/volume/eq/etc... filters).

so add 'ffdshow Audio Decoder,XForm In,XForm Out' to the line that starts with 'videoframe/additional_audio_filters='. open up the audio configuration for ffdshow, go to the codecs section (like you would for video) and set the mp2 section to either mp3lib or libmad, just as llong as its not on 'disabled' this will allow ffdshow to process the mpeg2 audio.

now start up sage, go to setup, detailed setup, audio, select the newly shown entry in the audio decoder option, "ffdshow Audio Decoder". you may need to reload the video player (from the video section) if you change the audio while a video is playing.

you can now change audio, add an eq, normalize the audio or even use winamp2 dsp plugins with sage.

edit>oh yah, you need a fairly recent version of ffdshow, since the old version dont have audio support, only video.

Well when I tried to download and use a new version than the alpha release at sourceforge.net
I could do mpeg2 anymore it said it was broken
Did you have this problem with the version you found elsewhere

I would really like to have an equalizer with sage
more treble and less Bass will out using the crappy sound mixer from creative

nope never had that problem, perhaps you're not enabling mpeg2 audio to be processed by ffdshow?

start>programs>ffdshow>audio filter configuration, go to the codecs section at the very top, select 'mp2' in the list of codecs, and choose either libmad or mp3lib (i used madlib) as your decoder. do notice that when using ffdshow, i noticed that there was a slight delay in audio introduced, so you'll need to compensate by adjusting the audio delay option on the same page you select ffdshow as your decoder for audio.

ok I tried the lastest version from 5-20-2004 and it says moeg2 is broken
I can get it to work when I choose default decoder
at least it did with the histogram but nvDVD 3 does not see it any more with this new version
I will try to find the version you are using
yeah nvDVD does not like that version either
the one I ran before was the old alpha release on sourceforge.net
it did nvDVD just fine

anyone know the newest version of ffdshow that works with nvDVD 3.0 postprocessing
