Java Heap Size / WHS

So my system was slowing to a crawl very quickly (after a restart). I pulled up the threads on Java Heap Size. Sure enough after takeing this from 200mb to 800mb, my system sped up considerably!!

However, its now eating that 800mb up. Do I increase again? How much should I keep doing this (or how much is too much)?

I'm running on a WHS server 3.2Gh duel core machine with 4GB of ram and 8TB of pooled drives (4TB of which are on USB Drives).

My inputs are 2 HD-PVRS and I use HTTP channel switching.

I watch sage TV on 4 different media extenderes (2 Wired / 2 Wireless).
I did not start to notice most of these problems till I added my last HD300 extender (wireless).

Any help?

I have WHS and have mine set to 832. I have 1 x HD300, 2 x hd200, 1 x hd100 and 2 PC clients. 1 x HD-PVR and 2 x HDHR. I don't see the need for more. And you won't get more than 1024 depending on how much contiguous memory is free. (Not total available.) As you start intruding into system memory you may start seeing the OS begin to use the page file more and more. And THAT you don't want. WHS, Sage and java is 32bit so more than 4 GB system won't help you either.

Thanks for the info. Right now i'm maxing out the 832, so i will up it to the 1249. What happens when I max that out (or do I wait till that happens)? Are there other places I should be looking to solve this issue?

I did not mention on my last post that I am running 2 PC clients as well. So that is

HD200 Wired
HD200 Wired
HD200 Wireless
HD300 Wireless
PC Win 7 Wired
PC Win 7 Wireless
(usually only 1 client is running, and no more than 3 max)

But if you're only running 3 clients and your jvm continues to max out you should check your plugins. You may have a memory leak from one of them. So disable all of them and run that for awhile. If the memory doesn't creep up then start adding them back in one at a time until you find the one leaking. The PC Clients have their own jvm. It is the extenders that share the jvm with the server.
