Haupauge remote won't wake sleeping client sometimes, and possible reason.
Sometimes the remote just seems to quit working. Especially if Client been asleep and not used for awhile. If I take the kb out of the side table drawer and barely touch the mouse ball it wakes up. It just hit me today that since I'm using a RF wireless kb/mouse combo unit with my HTPC Client IT goes to sleep/turns off when not in use. And since the Haupauge remote transmits kb commands to Sage and the kb is asleep me thinks Win doesn't "hear" the remote because the kb is asleep. I'm going to put on a hard wired kb/mouse combo tomorrow and test the theory.
If this does indeed turn out to be the case I'm going to be ticked! The HTPC is mounted in my AV tower rack and switch kb/mouse a pain and don't want wired units "uglying" it up. That and would be a pain in the butt to use when needed. Then again, it'll solve the remote problem. While I use a KVM for switching between my main PC and Sage Server I haven't heard of a unit for switching dual kb/mouse setup on a single PC. Then again, I've haven't looked so hopefully the hardwird mb/mouse will solve the remote dying AND I'll be able to find a way to easily switch from wired to wireless... Anyone else gone through this scenario? |

I'm not having similiar experiences but, if your theory turns out to be true...
Maybe you should check out this post by Opus4 in the SageTV FAQ. He explains how to change the way commands are sent, by the Hauppauge remote app, to use "sendmessage" instead of keystrokes. This should bypass your problem if your theory is correct. Best of Luck

I am having the same issue. PC goes to sleep and remote doesn't wake it up/function until I hit a key on the keyboard. I turned off all the WinXP power (set it to "always on") but didn't make any difference. My next step is to completely turn off the power mgmt in the BIOS.
Another thought I had was to first determine what IRQ the PVR is sitting on. There are settings in my BIOS to "wake" on certain conditions. One of them is to listen to a particular IRQ...sooo...my thought was to have it "listen" to the PVR's IRQ and, hopfully, "wake up" when I hit the remote. Was also thinking that then I could let the PC go to sleep (not hibernate) and it would wake up when the PVR signaled activity to do recording... Rob |
