Can you do this in Diamond

I would like to put a Kids' shows entry on my Main Menu, or failing that on my videos/ movies menu. This would point to a folder a few levels down in my video library. Can I do this? If so, how?

What sort of "Kids' shows"? Movies, archived TV, imported TV etc....

Diamond has the ability to create custom movie views on the second level with each having it's own filters and folder inclusion/exclusions. In TV you can specifiy TV views that show on the third level that can have separate looks and filters (but no folder inclusion/exclusion filtering at the moment)

Nothing is on the top level menu though with TV/Video/Music/Photos etc....

Second level is good enough.

These are generally archived TV shows from Sage or other PVRs. Most, but not all, have valid metadata. Currently we access these through the Folders view of SageMC although newer shows are in Recorded TV. The views that depend on Fanart can be problematic as a lot of the shows don't have correct Fanart or they have non-unique Fanart due to no episode info - many Wiggles shows have absolutely no episode info.

I actually quite like the way Diamond handles imported TV shows as well. I am currnetly thinking that the best way to do this might be using the TV view for the most part.

Can you also set up custom views for TV?

How do you do the folder inclusion/exclusion? I didn't see that in the wiki.

Sagetv installs with 4 views already setup,

All Recordings
Current Recordings
Imported TV
Recorded Movies

You can reuse these catagories by changing the names and filters set on them to give you different content and also now in Diamond give each a different look like "simplified", default, default with banners, and so on....

You can add more views as well. From any of the TV views hit ESC and then go into Menu Options and set the "Number of Views" (default is 4) and you can also rename the current view from here.

After you create a custom movie view, you then enter the view and go into Diamond Options by hitting ESC. From there you select Filters: Folder Setup. From there you can add folders to include/exclude.

It's under the table of movie view options in the following link,

OK I have done all of this I have created a new view called Kids' Shows using the List View. A couple of problems:

How do the include and exclude folders options work? If you have 20 folders in your library and you only want to show 1 do you have to exclude the other 19?

The other problem is that this shows all of the thousands of Kids's Shows without any hierarchy. Is there any way you can group them? One way would be by Show Title for those that are TV shows, but not all of them are. So I need some sort of a grouping structre.

Should I really just give up on doing this through my video library and just make sure that I have proper metadata to treat all of these Kids' Shows as TV, even though some are actually movies, or at least not episodes of a TV show?

I'll ask jusjoken/EP/Plucky to explain the include/exclude filter when one of them gets a chance, I don't use it a lot so I don't want to give you the wrong info.

We've kind of taken the approach that TV should be all together whether it is recorded or imported or archived etc... and that once you decide how you want it sorted you can create views that do what you want. EP/Plucky added the ability to see Playon Netflix/Hulu TV shows right in the TV views if you want to as well. This doesn't mean you can't have movies in your "all recordings" view but you have the option to hide them if you want.

For example I have a few views that I use,

1. I have the basic "All Recordings" view with the filter set to "not include" imported TV so that I only see what is being recorded on my tuners. I also set Recored Movies in filtering to "not included" and then in all of my movie views (Wall, Flow, Listflow....) I have them filtered to show there with all the other movies.

2. I have another view that is setup as "Imported TV" that has only imported (ripped) TV episodes in it via filtering option "Only Imported TV" so I only see my ripped TV series in that view.

3. Recorded Movies view that is just that (default view) so that I can manage my recorded movies and monitor when to move them to my storage drives for long term. Alternatively you could create a movie view (Wall, Flow, ListFlow...) that only has recorded movies via the filtering and manage from one of those.

There are all sorts of options just have to play around.

J

In the example you provided you would just INCLUDE the 1 folder you want to show. If you INCLUDE 1 out of 20 at the same level then only the 1 will show.

If you wanted to show only 18 out of the 20 then you would EXCLUDE the 2 you didn't want to show.

OK thanks - I was thinking that to start with it already included everything in the Video library, but I guess if you start using the Include functionality then it will not include the Video Library folders defined in Sage, it will only show the specifically included folders, Correct?
