Temporarily disable a favorite

Any way to disable a favorite without removing it? Say, I don't care for the show at the moment, but don't want to lose the settings in case I warm to the show again. Alternatively, is there way to save/restore individual favorites (a plugin maybe)?

Try setting your favorite to a specific channel that it doesn't broadcast on.

I think there is a plugin, but you could simply limit the Favorite to a channel the show isn't on.

By doing this I'd be changing the very settings I'm trying to preserve. I have a a complex favorite scheme, including things like the same show on HD and SD subchannels (*), one PBS show on one PBS station and another PBS show on another PBS station (**). I don't want to re-think and re-do all this in the future if I decide to take a break from a show for now. An on/off toggle, even if it's an editing hack, would be vastly preferable.

* - older 4:3 episodes look better in SD, newer 16:9 ep look better in HD
** - I get two sets of PBS stations with diff. profiles, one broadcasts older shows which the other doesn't

Limit the number of recordings to something lower than how many you have now, or would that erase older recordings?

Click the "Add a keyword" button and type in DO NOT RECORD or something along those lines. Presumably no airings will match that keyword, so no recordings will be scheduled.

This is basically what the plugin does, I believe.

I know this isn't an answer to your question but why do you want to stop recording a show?

This is a show that you think you will want to watch again, hence, you won't remove the favorite. What is the issue with SageTV recording the show?

I would be wary of installing additional plug-ins that could kill your system instability for such a minor, non-feature (IMO), "enhancement."

I recommend you set this favorite to the lowest priority and set the keep at most setting to 1. That way this recording won't take priority over anything you do want to record plus, if you aren't recording the show, how will you know if you warmed back up to it?

Gigabytes of wasted space, needless wear on the disks, having the PC awake when it could be asleep.

What's wrong with killing system INstability? If the plugin killed stability, you'd have me worried.

Well, your "non-feature" is my "feature" and vice versa, hence the tons of plugins.

a) word of mouth, b) being interested in the show's general subject matter again, c) having more time for TV after a busy period.

Brilliant, exactly what I wanted. The keyword is shown next to show title in the favorites list, which makes it obvious which ones are disabled. Thanks.

The plugin linked above does basically the same thing, in one click. It also highlights the disabled favorites in red, so you can see quickly what is disabled.

(Of course, I wrote the plugin, so I may be a bit biased toward it)

Just installed it, works great, thanks for writing it. The red color is a nice touch. The linked thread says it doesn't work with 7.1, but it seems to work in 7.1.5.

I updated it to work with 7.1 fairly recently. Glad it fits your need.

here is an example..........i have a complex set of favorites set up to record baseball games and i have to take into account issues like local blackouts on some channels when games are on other channels...........it is messy but works.

when i go on vacation for a week or 2, i really don't want to continue recording those games, so the enable/disable plugin is perfect for me.........
