It support HDTV TS stream and AC3!
the actiontec unit is the same as the pinnacle showcenter, neuston mc-500 and some french brand of the same chipset.

this would be the way to go if someone was truly upto the task since it supports the most common video files. the same box with a dvd deck inside would be nicer

the avel media player and the momitsu v880n basically do the same thing as the z500.

the draw to the z500 is the wmv9 supposed capability but if you look at all the crap that blight (of zoom player) is having with M$ over wmv9 playback then i think you'll find this player will hit the same stumbling block.

M$ and wmv9-hd can kiss my british a$$.

Thumbs up DSM 320

I've been playing with the DSM 320 for the past couple of weeks and, it does have some problems. D-Link is aware of the problems and they are working on another firmware revision. This piece is not something that works flawlessly out of the box.

I typical rip DVDs to my hard drive using DVD shrink, I put the Video and Audio TS files into a folder. After DVD shrink is done, I relable the Video TS file with the Video name and then I put all of these folders into a large folder.
Usually, play back is pretty good. However:

1) with some disc audio playback is not acceptable,

2) there are no chapter skips,

3) sometimes the DVD starts in the middle of the movie,

4) the video freezes sometimes

5) If you stop the movie it will not resume where you stopped at.

6) If you pause the movie for too long you'll see the timer in the middle of the screen for the duration of the movie.

Conclusion, if you have some time to play with this piece it's a great value for the money. If you want to be able to have a piece without glitches this piece is not it.

Happy Holidays, Stefan
