D-Link DSM-320 54Mbps Wireless Media Player
http://dlink.com/products/?pid=318
Any thoughts on this? Seems very cool. Obviates the needs for another PC at your client stations but I guess Sage would not work there ![]() |

This actually looks much better to me then the MVP. The question is, how configurable is the interface?

Looks very similar to the Pinnacle ShowCenter or whatever it's called. Whats MSRP?
If it is like the Pinnacle, then it has an HTML driven interface which means it's totally customizable. You would have to get a good web guy to help you make the interface.

Hmmm. I now have the unit, but it is failing during my testing. I have previously had problems burning certain shows to DVD--those same recordings may also be causing the problem. I'll let you know after testing. Getting some avcodex.dll issue which causes the mediaserver executable to fail. I have requested an RMA just in case.

"The DSM-320 adheres to the Universal Plug-&-Play AV specification, and complies with Intel Networked Media Product Requirements (INMPR), allowing it to communicate with other UPnP AV media devices seamlessly."
I wonder if there is a way we could build a UPNP interface for SageTV? |

The unit had a problem with at least one of my files. I did a quickstream fix using VidoeReDo (cool program--think I'll buy it) on the files I thought might be the problem. Some of them had issues and were corrected. I used the process of elimination to find the last file that had the issue.
I used VideoRedo to delete about 1 second of audio-video garbage from the beginning of one of my mpegs. When ever the DSM-320 saw the file and tried to verify the file format, it would see the garbage and fail. This would happen anytime the file was accessed including anytime the system checked the file name (during a directory search). Now that the problem has been fixed, the unit is working like a champ. I am impressed with the picture mode, mp3 access, online radio, screensaver, and mpeg access. I wish that the SHUFFLE, FORWARD and REVERSE buttons worked all the time. |

I have say this Hardware Base MVP PC System Requirements which clearly state
Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 or XP 500MHz processor My guest that this maybe base on REALmagic 86xx chip or ATI IGP did ever open it up to find out what under the hood doncote0?. |

No, I didn't open it up.
I am using the wired setup instead of the wireless. Due to the fall off of 802.11G at certain ranges, I would recommend wired. If the system is too far from a network jack, you can always use a " Lorex VS6367 DELUXE VIDEO SENDER " to send the audio and video from whereever the device is wired. |

The D-link DSM-320 mediaserver is going back for 1 major reason:
Reverse (rewind) does not work. I am really surprised that a device would get released for sale without this 1 major function working. D-link should have at least released a new firmware within the first month to fix this issue (or recalled the item). I would have kept the device despite my other disappointments: --Shuffle does not work --FFWD is not very fast at all These may all be addressed by a future firmware update, but I'll think about buying the DSM-320 when it's fully ready for sale. I havn't seen any disccusion about this unit in a while. Does it work better then the MVP? I record at DVD standard quality and the 10mb interface on the MVP has trouble with FF/RW. The MVP menu interface is also really slow when browsing directories with a lot of mpg's. |

So how does this work with Sage?

There is apparently a new firmware that addresses most of the previous problems and most importantly it can be used with DI-624 Dlink router which supports Super G (108 mbps) wireless protocol.
http://dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=318 I noticed on screenshots of the product setup that it may support VOB format. Anyone here has this device and tried to play backedup DVDs in the VIDEO_TS folder. In other words, does it recognize and play the ifo files in the "ripped" dirctory to play the DVD? If that is the case, this is a very sweet deal to have $150 client to play your audio/video library. |

Interesting, this actually has component vidoe and digital audio. However, did not see anything that states it supports DTS or Dolby Digital. Anyone know?
thanks, |

OK, reading this made me start looking around.
Anyone heard anything about this media player? http://www.actiontec.com/products/te...fications.html It support HDTV TS stream and AC3! |

The actiontec device will not be able handle video streaming well (the supported wireless data rates are very low).
The Dlink machine however could handle full DVD quality streaming (at least on paper until someone confirms it here) |

I would use it with a wired connection. The thing I like is support for TS streams, and web browsing. Looks like I may be able to use the webserver for sage to setup, schedule, delete files and play them with this unit. I could also stream my HDTV recording made on my accessDTV card.
I wonder if it will play ifo files from the VIDEO_TS folders. |

Dlink tech support emailed me this. Well that settles it

DI-624 is 108 mbps capable. Does that mean DSM-320 is also compatible with 108 super G? Unfortunately the DSM-320 will only allow the DI-624 to run at 54Mbps. 2- Can it stream DVD from my computer DVD player to my TV? In other words, is it able to read DVD file structure ( e.g. ifo and vob files)? Currently there is no support for DVD support to your television. ![]() |

I am looking for the "best" device that will allow DVD playback on a client box. I am not against converting DVDs to another format if I need too, but I would think someone out there would have a recomendation as to which "hardware" client would be the best.
