I was given these by someone who used to work at apple. Put the phone in dfu mode and run these utilities based on the software version. He said to also get the latest version of red snow (whatever that is). I don't own an ios device, but since I work with former apple employees I knew one of them would know something.

He doesn't have it with him and won't until monday. If you can wait I'll get it from him. He said you could send him the phone, but I don't know how you would feel about that. He said if the phone is JB'd you should have ssh(?) installed and he would be able to get into the phone.

OK...I think I've instructions on how to solve my problem. But now I've got another issue....I don't have the .dmg restore file from the iPhone before which is needed to create the ssh ramdisk image. It was deleted due to lack of hard disk space. So now I just need to figure out how to get a 3.1.2 (7D11) restore image somehow....

OK, so I need a .dmg file and those downloads are .ipsw files. Anyone know how to convert? I'm searching now on it but haven't found an answer yet...

OK...major progress now.
I got the new ramdisk loaded and all and got the tunnel almost working for SSH. But there's one problem in the steps I haven't figured out how to resolve. I'm getting an error doing the tunnel and the instructions indicate you'll get that error if "You ARE NOT USING kernelcache file from an ipsw made with PwnageTool."These are the instructions I'm following currently: http://msftguy.blogspot.com/2010/05/...-with-ssh.html which mentions "*Note that you still need a pwned kernelcache (from a pwnageTool generated IPSW)!" I tried using WinPwn; but it only supports up to 2.0 firmwares. I don't have a Mac at home so I can't try to use a newer version of it....got plenty of Macs at the office...maybe I'll have to go in there to do that part but I'm trying to avoid that.
