External recovery service/app
Due to my recent nightmare with SageTV (read here), I'd like to know if there is any way to poll SageTV to see if it is active and working properly. Is there an api that an external Java or Python application/service could use to check the status of SageTV?
Some things I think it would need to check: Is SageTV on? (service or application) Does SageTV respond to a "hello"? (for lack of a better term) Is SageTV getting an EPG update? If so, how long has it been working on the update? Is SageTV recording? If so, what is it recording and how long has it been recording? If the status came back negative, the external app could taskkill SageTV.exe or netstop the SageTVservice. Then wait a few minutes, and restart it. It would keep track of this restart and then check SageTV again. If it failed again, then it could reboot the computer altogether and perhaps send an email/text msg to a cell phone.

Well firstly, there's the automated service recovery that can be enabled from the service control app.
