Unhappy Sage lockup = no SciFi Friday

Words cannot describe how disappointed I am in Sage right now. It locked up during SG-1.. missed both episodes of SG-1 and both episodes of Atlantis.

I checked all tv guides and the Sci-fi channel.. those two episodes won't be replayed on any channel for as far out any of the guides go (30 days).

I caught it in time for it to record the 2nd play of Battlestar Galactica.

I can't believe I won't get to see 2 of the second-to-last season ending episdoes of my two favorite shows.

This is proof positive that SageTV, in PC software form at least, is not ready for the mass market. I've been a big defender of Sage for a long time, but it locking up with no recovery is just really poor.

Hm... I'm running 1.5.0 update 6 and have been experiencing occasional crashes while watching content. I'd like to keep running 1.5.x... what would be a good choice? I'll go ahead and install update 5 and use that, is there a better version to use? Thanks.

I don't agree. My systems runs 24/7 and simply hasn't locked up. Sometimes things just fail. Cars fail. I've lost the Cox cable signal during shows, but no one would suggest that cars or Cox cable isn't ready from the mass market.

No system is perfect.

Trust me, we have all been there at one time or another, but I agree with the other posters in that there is no perfect system. It would be nearly impossible to come up with a system as rich and complex as Sage and expect it to work without ever failing once. I'm still amazed that it's as solid as it is for me (caveat below) especially since it runs on Windoze.

Just last week I had my first ever system lockup which somehow ended up dropping American Idol and the spousal unit was *not* understanding . I tried to explain that in the 2 years we've used Sage that we've missed maybe 3 recordings out of thousands and the old VCR had only worked right maybe 4 out of every 5 times (it was always something...timer error, channel error, tape error, etc.). She still only remembers the 3 that Sage missed... .

I hate to bring this up again, but this seems to happen whenever someone says that some recording was missed & I've already removed a few such comments from this thread...

Forum rule #4 is one that I am very strict about. Its meaning for this topic is that making any sort of offer to share copyrighted material is not allowed on this forum. The purpose of that rule is to prevent any sort of appearance that SageTV condones such activity, which they do not. Remember: TV shows are copyrighted.

So, while I sympathize with the loss of any recordings (and I have made a few accidental deletions and scheduling mistakes myself, both in SageTV and back in my VCR usage days), please remember to keep any comments about file sharing of copyrighted items off of this forum. Thank you.
