How do multiple tuners work?
Started out with a sage server, dtv receiver, hdpvr and one HD200 client. I change channels over the network and it works perfect (just need to tweak the channel changing speed a bit, it's sort of slow).
Just got two more dtv receivers and hdpvrs installed. Configured and it seems to work just fine same as above. I've had one show on the laptop remote to the server sage tv client and another in the bedroom on different channels. So how exactly does sage know what tuners are in use by what and how does it handle conflicts? Let's say I have 3 clients and 3 dtv boxes / hdpvrs. What happens if I add a fourth that wants to watch live tv and the other 3 already have them in use on 3 different stations? What about when channels are set to record? Right now I haven't gotten the HD clients installed (only one out of 4). Thanks for any info! |

If you have 3 tuners and 4 shows to record, then it records the 3 shows that has highest priority based on your recording settings. If all 3 tuners are recording 3 live TV shows and you want to watch a 4th show, then SageTV will pop up an option window allowing you to override one of the 3 recordings. If the live recordings are being watched on other clients at the same time, then SageTV won't let you override them, I think it just pops up some sort of recording error message.

So how do you know another client isn't watching anymore? When you power off the sage hd client does it release the tuner?

It's the action of recording (LiveTV is a recording) that consumes a tuner, not just the fact of having an extender online. The extender could be idled at a menu or playing some video/music...

IF you power a client off the recording stops, yes. If you choose to override it will kick a client out, if that is what you tell it to do.
