Seek problems

I am running SageTV 7.1.9 on Windows 7 and SageTV Placeshifter 7.1.9 on Windows XP on another computer. I have no problems with the W7 client, however when I try to play back TV recordings (captured by an InfiniTV w/ SageDCT) on the Placeshifter, I am unable to seek properly. When I try to seek forward (either by clicking on the timebar, using the FF/RW keys, or clicking the buttons in the bottom right), the timebar cursor momentarily moves to that position, then snaps back near where it had previously been. Usually it's only ~5-6 seconds forward of the original position. Anyone have any ideas? I can provide additional HW/config information if needed. Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem. I am running the latest SageTV under Win7 and it works fine. If I use the latest Placeshifter on a different computer (also running under Win7) it will play fine but trying to fast forward or back goes beserk. I try to step forward and the display initially steps forward as expected, then jumps back about 10 minutes to an earlier point in the recording all by itself. I can move along the timeline by clicking the timeline and I go roughly where I expect to, however the time display is out of sync. This is the first time I have tried Placeshifter under V7, so I can't say what version this problem started with - but it never used to do this with the same hardware under V6.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am having this same problem with SageDCT recordings. Has anyone found a solution? I also can't seek in windows media player and VLC does not play the recordings at all.

I was having the same problem. The only solution I found was to have Sage convert the recording after it finished recording. The converted show seeks fine. I think the media player that is begin used by Sagetv is old and does not support seeking in HD files. I believe Sagetv is using a custom version of mplayer.

I have this problem, but only if I connect using the "local server" entry on the menu you get when you first start Placeshifter. If I choose the external IP--even if I'm on the same local LAN--skipping works.

Thank you for this. This problem was driving me nuts. I have DU Meter installed on my computer to see my bandwidth usage. When I select "local server" I see that it maxes out my wireless connection at 1.5mBps. When I select my external IP (even though I'm on the LAN) the connection averages in the 500-600kBps range. I don't see any degradation in video quality and the skipping works perfectly. I'm thinking Sage/Placeshifter sees a LAN and doesn't do any quality/bandwidth down conversion and a 6+ GB HD file is too much for a 54mbps wireless connection to handle.

This problem started when I switched to the Ceton InfiniTV through SageDCT. When I was running a Hauppuage 1250 Placeshifter worked fine.
