I am already on version 7 and have no heartburn that I paid for it and others are now getting it free (it was well worth the price to me).

Jeff, thanks mightily for getting this done and thanks to Google for letting it happen. It is a huge jesture and a classy move.

Now can we get some HD300s from the store? Sorry, had to as and I know you cannot comment, but if it happens, please do it in a way where they get distributed over the entire customer base and not just the lucky ones that see the store upen up.

Just to be clear:

I own licenses for:
  • V6 server
  • V6 place shifter
  • 3 v6 clients

Can I go to v7 with my v6 key including the clients? How do I do it, do I have to install the beta and then replace the exe?

Again just to be clear I'm not trying to do something I shouldn't, I'm asking is this allowed/possible or should I just stay with v6?

Also it's been posted that EPG will remain active for at least a year but what about updates for online videos etc when youtube changes formats?

Not sure what we can do about the clients right now....that's sort of a different situation.

We are trying to figure out solutions to the problems the community is having...I can't promise anything at this time...but we do value the community and are trying to make everyone happy.

Just reopen the store until the end of the month and send the profits to Red Cross or something...

I paid for the v7 upgrade and do not regret it, and would not even think about any kind of refund or credit. I think it is unbelievably generous of you to allow the people "on the fence" to make the move to v7. All these days of wondering if you left us hanging have been tough, but the move you made is one that will raise the respect for you and Sage to a new high. Thank you for helping out the v7-deprived customers!
And, I wish you the best in your new endeavor, you are a true gentleman - I'm proud to have been just a tiny part of this forum and being a SageTV user.

Just thinking out loud here about sage client (software, not extenders)...
Option #1
If google is concerned with a "purchase" which implies a contract, then do as you did for v6-->v7... give it away the same way to existing customers. "Comment out" the code where it disallows a "client" key to be on a network more than once. That way only people who have the software in its present form and have a working "sage Client key" can install it elsewhere.
Option #2
Create a web page where you have to put in your Sage server key which would let existing customers purchase new clients. Similarly generate new licenses free of charge. Google could offer a "good will" of "limit 5" or something.

Either option would leave the community "whole". Those with extenders would have to transition to small PC clients when the extenders got zapped by lightning. But at least they'd have the option.

In my case it would allow me to complete the entertainment hub of my home. Thanks Jeff, for listening. It is *only* TV but as you know it can become a family point of contention. (sigh).

Awesome! Like many here, I've already have V7 but I am very happy for the holdouts.

Once again you have given us a great product and great service!

Thank you Jeff for your help. I didn't need the v7 upgrade but quite a few people did. Just proves that you did not leave us in a lurch.

Good luck in your new journey. Again thank you.

Phil

Thank you. I have a second server that's been off-line lately so I never bothered to upgrade that one to ver 7. Now I can, or even use that one as a client if I ever need it.

I hope I'm explaining this correctly.

I have a sageTV Media Center 6 license that I dont use anymore. Would it be possible to install SageTVClient_V7_1_9Setup.exe on a brand new PC, replace the respective SageTV.exe with the one provided in this thread and use my sageTV 6 Media Center license. I'm just trying to find a creative way to add an extra client to my LAN.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

This is a slippery slope:
  • First it is free upgrade to ver 7
  • Then Users demand client licenses
  • Then left over HD Extenders
  • Then profit sharing
  • Then shares in google
  • Then small islands
  • Then large islands
  • Then planets, solar systems, galaxies, and universes
  • Then they demand free tacos

Mmmm... tacos.

Doesn't seem fair to the people who don't like tacos...

What, I don't get shares of Google! Now that they own SageTV it might be worth it buying some.

Anyway, thanks Jeff this is a great gesture!

--EDIT--
I almost forgot. Jeff you should name a charity or two that the community can choose to donate to if they use the free version. It would be a great gesture for us to give to you as that appears all we really can do.
