I voted "don't need" but my actual position is somewhere between "don't need" and "too expensive". Not that I object to paying for a good app, but in this case I'm not seeing what this gets me that I can't do already with the mobile web app.

Sure, this has a slicker UI, but it's still not the native SageTV UI, and not customizable (as far as I can tell). To me one of the big advantages of Sage is the degree to which the UI can be themed and modded to make it exactly the way I want it. So I can't really see paying money at this point to get locked into somebody else's idea of what the UI should look like.

Now if you can come up with a Placeshifter app for Android that will bring up on my phone the actual, fully customized SageTV UI as it appears on a regular Sage client (and not some mock-up or approximation of it), that would be worth paying for.

I bought it.. but never really use it. I find it just easier to use the mobile web interface for most tasks.

This is partly because Im waiting for Mirage (required for streaming on my andriod 3.1 tablet) to fix the sound sync problem.

I have not purchased and will not until the quality of the video is better.

This is my feeling also – I can do everything I need with the web interface…

Did you install the SageTCPServer plugin inside SageTV and set the proper server in the Server settings? (try to follow up in the support thread)

Yes I installed SagTCPServer plugin. I believe I entered the correct server settings.

The wiki barely covers the essentials and does not address loads of questions that come to mind that would be useful for troubleshooting or better understanding. My problem might even be the model of phone I have for all I know. I'm not sufficiently interested to spend any more time on it.

Thanks any way.

Photon,
We would be more than happy to help you out. Will need some info on what you got hung up on to update the docs so it's clearer.

Thanx!

I didn't get hung up on any steps. It just didn't work at all for me. Maybe it's my phone and maybe it's a gotcha not covered. Other than the two items listed above to setup I tried with WIFI on and off since I didn't see any mention about how that needed to be set. At some future date I may try it again. For now I don't have time to fuss around. I just posted because there wasn't a survey option appropriate for me to select and figured I might not be the the only one and that info might be useful feedback.
Thank you!

About the streaming, to put things in perspective, just consider how long it took NetFlix to get an Android streaming app, and that they don't even support all the Android devices either...

To be fair, Netflix isn't holding off because of any technical limitation, it is 100% because of DRM issues, and the various devices/builds to be vetted for security. The current Netflix app will run perfectly fine on my Motorola Xoom (not yet approved), but will stop the stream after a second or two because the device is not approved yet.

I haven't purchased as it seems overly complicated to get it set up and going. If the wiki / installation instructions where updated I would have a go,,but at the moment haven't got the time to go through the thread and read everything

I would like to try the app but cannot install SageTCPserver the plugin system says it is not compatible and cites the version SageTV Core Vesion as the reason. It needs 7.1.9+ and I have v7.1.8.255and now with Sage download offline (following Google) no way to upgrade it.

Any ideas ???

Matthew
