You may have to first go to the Boxee settings and set the log level to debug.

What should happen is that the app should tell you it can't connect then give you the option to continue anyway. Once the app starts then you can go to Settings->Boxee and edit the connection information.
Attached as requested. Also, I was able to get the app to work by going into the profile directory and manually adding the port number. But this log file is from while I was getting the error.

Boxee - $149

As an FYI, MobilePC.com is selling a "new open-box" Boxee for $149 + $9.99 shipping.

http://www.mobilepc.com/Electronics/...s-Media-Player

Their description of the condition:

Quote:
This is a new open-box item and is guaranteed in perfect working order by a hassle-free 30-day MobilePC warranty. The item includes all essential accessories to get up and running quickly, though manuals and other non-essential items may be absent. Retail packaging may or may not be included.

This item is a new open-box item that may or may not include retail packaging.
I went ahead and ordered one...

Current projection is September 2011 according to this thread;

http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=29493&page=4

but it was first announced in January 2011 and ship date has been continuously pushed back. So it is not truly known.

That iomega device sounds nice. The whole cloud feature is 'nice' but not exactly practical. I like the idea of cloud storage and the benefits. At the same time, ISP's limit and cap bandwidth so it's not exactly an ideal offering...

What does 'Advanced Network Functionality' mean? Is that fancy talk for it has a 10/100 nic?

I wonder how long it would take to upload my >500 disc ripped bluray library to their cloud In theory, I could stream my 40mbps bluray media over Internet; but, it would be clunky.

I also like how they consider 2TB "Plenty of Storage"

The cloud is usually fine to store music and pictures, but it's kinda silly for video...

Or also keep all the raw files, just in case...

Well, I'm also factoring in family videos. They all get stored on my server in the same location. Maybe 'Family Memories' would be a better term...

Regardless, 2TB is a paltry amount of space.

Very true. I still need to finish backing up my dvd's and blu-rays to my server. I'll need yet another 2tb drive to accomplish that. Glad they're cheap.

I seriously doubt there "cloud" software is storing your content on some remote servers somewhere. It's probably some client you install let's you access your media from your local storage anywhere

Looking at their documentation, you are right, they're not using the DropBox model...
