Having trouble getting all of the stuff hooked up and functioning correctly. Been trying to understand what needs to go where and am getting more confused reading these boards.
Here is my config: TV - Mitsubishi HDTV WS-65511 - 65" HTPC = P4 Intel 865PERLL Motherboard Graphics = ATI RADEON 9600XT 128M 8X PVR 350 PVR 250 I am confused as to the correct way to set this up. I have two connections coming into the house. 1 through Dish Network Receiver and 1 for over the air HDTV. I would like to be able to record on both, although to get things working I would accept being able to record off of the Satellite Only. Both cards are recognized and configured with SageTV. Before installing SageTV, WinTV2000 worked and I could see video and sound. After I installed SageTV, I only get a blank screen and no sound. Slight color bar at bottom of window. Then going back to WinTV2000 the picture is still there but bad and also has color bar at bottom of window. I have tried switching the decoders and all changes listed in FAQs. I have an s-video connection coming out of the Graphics card only to the TV - Audio is coming out of motherboard to TV I think I need to split the cable and send one input to PVR250 and the other input to PVR350. Is this correct? The output for both of these cards are ignored and only the s-video connection (or component) from the graphics card to the TV is used. Is this correct? Anything else I am doing wrong? Thanks for the help! |

I would suggest you disable the 350 card until you get the 250 working properly with SageTV. I think you will probably encounter a lot of errors related to the 350. See the thread Pvr 350 Out Lockups for problems related to using Intel Motherboards. I think you will get more responses about your problems if you remove the 350 from the mix. After you get SageTV running with just the 250 then you could try adding the 350.

Re: newbie: setup
Quote:
Two things, you won't be able to record HD with either of the cards you have, and if you want to record 2 sat channels at the same time you need to Sat boxes. Quote:
The 350/250 combo is known to cause problems, if you are able to part with the 350, I would do it and either get another 250 or nothing, I'll explain more below. Quote:
Generally yes, but with a Sat box, it won't do you any good. Since the box can only output on thing at a time, both cards would recieve the same thing an one would be redundant. Quote:
With your TV, yes, you either want to use a Component dongle, a VGA-RGBHV breakout cable, or DVI (if that model has it). Quote:
1) Record/PVR Satilite 2) Record/PVR HD In order to do that you'll here is what you need: 1) SDTV Card (you have two so you're fine there) 2) A sat box, which you have 3) An ATSC HD card (you don't have and unfortunately none are supported by Sage yet) or 3b) Another SDTV card if you are willing to accept that it will only record an SD version of the HD programming recieved by your HD STB What you need to do with that: 1) Connect Sat box to 250 via S-Video and L/R audio. 2) Connect IR blaster or Serial cable to PC/STB to change sat box channel. 3) Connect your antenna to an HD Card directly or 3b) Do the same thing with your other TV card and the HD box. I've probably not been as clear as I could be so please ask me to clarify anything that you need. |

the ATI has DVI output
second there is one card that is sort of supported that does HDTV (search for it) I cannot remember the name yeah I would not use the svideo out of the ATI card thats worse than the 350s you can trade your 250 for a roslyn but there are lock up issue with intel chipsets ATI chipsets and nforce 1 and 2 but I would go DVI or dongle when using HDTV |

I took out the 350 card and got things running. Added back the 350 card and again, the video still outputs fine (I need to get an IR blaster (on order) but that is a different issue). I am now trying to get it to play DVDs and I get different errors based on what I select.
Given my hardware - what should I have configured to get a standard DVD to play. I have tried a LOT of combinations and nothing seems to work. Thanks for the help |

What errors do you get, and what settings have you tried?

I was afraid you would ask that...
In going back to start to document what I did, I reset everything back to default and now it works on the PC Monitor. It does not show up on the TV, nor does the audio work. But that is progress! |

You aren't trying to use the 350's TV out for DVD playback, are you? If you are: the 350 can't play encrypted DVDs.

It is playing on my PC through Sage, but with no audio. The picture doesn't show up on the TV at all. Still sorting through all of these forums to see of this has been solved.
No I am not using the TV Out of the 350. I am using the S-Video out on my ATI Card |

If you're only getting video on one display try changing your renderer to Default or VMR9 (Make sure to enable 3D Accelleration to use VMR9).
As for audio, you probably need to use different filters, I don't think the Intervideo NonCSS ones can do AC3 (or at least I wouldn't be surprised if they can't). |

Finally Success with PVR250 and PVR 350
Ok...finally got everything working..wanted to document what I did for others with the same config.
Sequence is everything and even PCI slot position seemed to matter (not sure why..but I got it working). Install the PVR250 card - go through Installation and make sure everything is working through WinTV 2000 Install Sage TV and go through Installation. Here is what I had to configure for my ATI Card: DVD Working DVD-ROM Drive Yes DVD Video Renderer VMR9 DVD Video Decoder Filter Cyberlink Video DXVA DVD MPEG Mode Default DXVA DVD Deinterlacing Default DVD Audio Decoder Filter Cyberlink Audio Audio Renderer Cyberlink Audio Video Video Renderer VMR9 MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter Cyberlink Video DXVA MPEG Mode Default DXVA Deinterlacing Default Dscaler Deinterlacing Filter Disabled Audio Audio Renderer Default or Digital MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter Cyberlink Audio Audio Playback Delay 0 Advanced 3D Acceleration Enabled The true test is then Sage should work and also you should be able to go back to WinTV2000 and that should work as well. NOW..install the PVR350 card and go through setup. I had previously tried the PVR350 in slot 2 and PVR 250 in slot 4, but I had to change that. The PVR250 is in slot 2 and the PVR350 is in slot 4 now. Go back into Sage and configure the 2nd Capture Card and everything should still work. I am still trying to break it by recording, playing DVDs, recording two shows, etc....so I will post again if this config fails in the future. Thanks to everyone who offered some help in getting me started! |

hey you can get cyberlink video to do VMR 9?
I get the stupid active movie pop up window I got it to work once on my old setup of XP home but it just stuttered with slow playback frame by frame it also did the same thing in BTV 3.5(which is probably why it worked that one time in sage/ after that I got errors or window of active movie again) I can get ATI cyberlink to do VMR 9 fine but not the non ATI version just a question though and you do see the blue transparent menus, right? |

Yes - everything seems to work including the transparent windows. I haven't played too much with it yet since I am waiting for my IR Blaster before I can really do testing. But everything seems to work.

Is the version of cyberlink that you are using the ATI version that came with the ATI 9600 XT?
says Cyberlink video decoder (ATI) in sage decoders list? |

Yes. I checked each one and it has (ATI) next to the Cyberlink.
