I'm pissed about The Finder. I thought that show was awesome. Serves me right for watching a new show.

Also will miss Alcatraz.

Got a couple of the cancelled shows recorded but haven't watched yet. Not sure if they will ever get watched now.

Yeah, I liked The Finder and Alcatraz both -- but that's FOX for you. Rule of thumb with them, never WATCH a new FOX show until you hear it's been renewed for a second season (recording it is fine, just don't watch it...)

I enjoyed the finder and so did my kids it was light heated enough for them. I was also enjoying missing but figured it would get canceled because it was a watch week to week show.

+1 (though I wouldn't go as far as "pissed", just "disappointed"). I started off kinda lukewarm but I found it was a great show to watch while giving the baby his evening bottle and now I look forward to having one recorded to watch. The characters really grew on me and Michael Clarke Duncan is always awesome.

Speaking of Fox shows that are doomed simply because they are on Fox... "Breaking In"... I thought it was very good in season one, but they canceled it. Then they decided to renew it and bring in Megan Mullally (hoping her "name" would generate interest), but unfortunately she ruined the show. Too bad. Seems like with sitcoms, Fox likes to tinker with the formula when people are not watching, thinking that will bring in viewers (see "The Loop", where they made over the cast and plot focus from season one to season two and completely killed it). Someone ought to clue Fox in that it's not the plot and the actors, it's the fact it's on Fox. Hardly anyone watches sitcoms on Fox. If it's not a drama, a reality show, or a Sunday night cartoon, it has no chance.

On another note, I am glad that "who do you think you are?" is gone. My wife records all those ancestry shows and I just don't get it. Taking up too much space on my hard drive!

Yeah...I just need to record the full first season like I did with Awake and some others that way I don't get into a show that I think is good only to have it canned by moronic network execs.

Then have to wonder, whether to watch the 1 season of a canned show that you recorded, or to just delete them?

I would tend to say just delete them, but I did enjoy Alcatraz even though it only made 1 season.

Decisions, Decisions

Well, at least going in (if you choose to watch) you know that there won't be a followup season... I'm glad I watched Alcatraz and The Finder but annoyed that they were canceled. I haven't started watching Awake yet and now I'm not sure that I will...

It was such a bizarre theme. I wish they'd have had a chance to wrap it up & explain how/why the "time travel" or whatever it was happened.

I loved that mustang the main character drove.

I put it in the same class of shows such as The Event and Flashforward, both of which I mostly liked. However, these types of shows (with the single exception of "Lost") don't seem able to find their audience on the major networks. I wonder, though, if they wouldn't do better on USA/SyFy...

I liked those shows too. And it seems like that unless a show gets top ratings from week one, the major networks no longer have much patience for it. Especially when it is cheaper for them to just run reality trash that gets as good or better ratings.

BTW, I'm also sad that House is finishing its run. Between House, Fringe, Alcatraz, and Terra Nova going away, there is nothing left that I like on Fox. And precious little on broadcast TV at all.

Definitely not SyFy, they're almost as bad as Fox.
SciFi used to be a GREAT channel, SyFy with all the wrestling and other junk, not so much.

Although there have been a few good shows on SyFy.
Will miss Eureka.

Warehouse 13, Eureka, Haven, Alphas, Being Human, Sanctuary... (all of which I watch except Being Human)

I think Alcatraz would have been a good fit; and The Finder could have done well on USA I think.

I think SyFy has done great with their programming. Yes, they have some strang random stuff for filler - but that's to be expected on any cable channel these days. As more channels emerge, there are fewer eyes for any given channel. So, each station finds it's key programs, and then figures out what they can fill the rest with for little to no money. Would be nice if they could run some old sci-fi movies during the doldrum hours, but frankly, they get more eyes with the wrestling (as sad as that may be). I'm still betting that they are losing money during those wrestling hours, and making it back up during the prime-time original programming time slots.

I'm more upset with what has happened to G4TV over the years. That is a station that has had to completely lose it's identity to remain viable.

Wasn't Alphas canceled?
Caprica and SGU actually were getting better when they were cancelled.
Firefly was excellent when canceled. I'm sure there are many others I can't think of right now.

Don't watch the US Being Human....enjoy the BBC Being Human a lot better and the US episodes seemed to be de ja vue so stopped watching them after a couple episodes.

Nope, it was renewed for a second season. The shows I listed are all currently "on air".

That was Fox. They so thoroughly screwed that series, it's not even funny, beginning with showing the eps out of story line order.

Did read an article (forget where) about why Warehouse 13 got renewed and Eureka didn't although they both had similar ratings.

Was something along the lines of 5 years being the "magic number".
Although 5 years is "magic" for syndication, that SyFy doesn't get the syndication money (they don't own the shows?). Also, most of the initial contracts are for up to 5 years, after that if the show is a "hit", the "cost" (salary renegotiations) make the show more expensive but viewership doesn't increase so they can't charge more for commercials.

If true, then maybe 1 more season for Sanctuary, 2 for Warehouse 13

They also aired at least one episode of Alcatraz (Web Porter) out of order this spring due to the Daytona 500 rescheduling.
