Alternative to SageTV recorder for HP Express TV Card

I bought this HP Express Card Analog TV Tuner which is also sold under Yuan Express Card Analog TV Tuner used. It came without siftware. It works fine with the trial version of SageTV which I downloaded. That is due to expire soon. Since I haven't seen a way to purchase a key for it so I could continue to use the TV Recorder I'm looking for another program for my XP pc.Ideally it would be one that allows me to use the program I'm used to,TitanTV, to select programs to record. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Take a look at www.gbpvr.com it is free and the closest thing to Sage right now that I know of. You will have to pay or setup a scraper to get the EPG data. Some people have tried and like mediaportal also but that is a little harder to set up and it doesn't have any extenders options. I used mediaportal years ago and didn't mind it that much , but Sage was in light years a head of it even in version 2.0 at the time I started using Sage.

Not sure if this is feasible for you but if the tuner is Windows 7 compatible, you could look into upgrading and using Windows Media Center which includes the EPG for free. Not sure how much you're looking to use client/extenders but for watching/recording TV for a single user on a computer (monitor only or connected to a TV), WMC is pretty good.

Thanks. GBPVR is now NextPVR. I've been trying for 2 weeks to get it to work without success. It won't do anything because it can't even find my card. I even joined the forum and people gave pretty technical suggestions which were either incomprehensible to me or didn't work. SageTV immediately recognised the card and went to work. I can't understand why it is isn't possible for people in my situation to pay a little money and use it.

.
Thanks. I tried WMC with another card and didn't like it. It had capture problems with syncing the audio and also seemed too intrusive by trying to decide which programs I was allowed to record. Any other suggestions?

Hi I just went through many hoops to install mediaportal. I had to install many extra parts in addition to it. In the end, it didn't even come close to working with my card. I just can't figure out why Sagetv needed none of that cums\bersome setup, recognized my card and went right to work.

Well you got a heap of information on how to make the card work under NPVR, and if you just had followed the step-by-step instructions it would not have been a problem. Lots of npvr users has done that with no or little technical knowledge before, with success.
