Use HD200 from remote Location to connect to Home Sage Server?

Hi All;

I have a spare HD200 and have just bought a small place downtown where I'll spend a little time once in a while, and my wife will spend nights when I travel.
I don't feel like paying full monthly price for satellite or cable TV for a few nights a month, when I already have all I want on my home server. I will get internet as I may work there once in a while.

To make it wife friendly I'd love to use the HD200 rather than my spare Placeshifter license to browse/view the home server.

Is it possible to connect an HD200 to a home SageTV server over the internet?

(I have dynamic IP, but use DynDNS to have a home url, and my home router is already setup for Placeshifter to route the SageTV traffic to the SageTV server)

I doubt quality will be good as I doubt my upload speed from the home server will be sufficient for HD.
Would installing either a software or hardware VPN server help?

Otherwise -if I can connect- I might point the client HD200 only to compressed files on the home server to ease upload?

I welcome all ideas.
Eric

i believe that hd200/hd300 can be used as placeshifters as well. All you need to do is go into stand alone mode and add your placeshifter to sageTV Servers

If i recall correctly there is also a a url service via sage that you can use to locate your sage server by hitting their website.

one you have that, and your username and password setup youll be good to go.

Thanks a lot!
Looks like very similar to using a placeshifter client, but doing it with the HD200 instead.

Unfortunately I can't test things as my "business class" gateway doesn't allow a loop-back from the intranet out to the internet and back.

I hope that once connected I'll be able to load my custom STV so my wife sees the interface she's familiar with.
Then there's the issue of upload speed, but one thing at a time.

Eric how did this turn out? I am in a similar situation and want to try the same thing with an hd300? I can run placeshifter on my laptop and then to the tv but wanted a more permanent and wife friendly solution and one that would hopefully play movies in a video ts structure.

I don't have an extra hd200 or hd300 but may have to fork out the money. I do have a client license I don't use at all at home so I would guess I could it to do the same thing?

If you've got a UPnP capable router, sage can do all the setup you need. Then you just enter the provided 'Locator ID' that the sage server generates to the extender, and you're done. It should connect, and the interface will be the same as at home (though you can configure it differently, if you so choose). The video will stream as good as the internet connection permits.
