Do you want to switch...

I have V7 of SageTV and 4 tuners which all show working in system information.

It's 6:53 and I'm watching channel 7. I have channels 4 and 9 scheduled to record at 7:00 both padded 3 minutes early.

Why am I asked if I want to switch to channel 9? If I say no (which I did), it stopped my recording of channel 9.

This has been going on for months but I finally decided to ask .

Do all 4 tuners have the same lineup?

Is there something with padding on after those? Do you have the remove padding on back to back favorites option disabled?

remove padding on back to back favorites is set to no.

The shows being recording were manual recordings and there was no back to back stuff going on. 2 manual recordings on 2 different channels and I was watching a third channel.

Thanks stanger89 & korben_dallas, I appreciate your ideas.

Right but was something going to be recorded after those two shows? With those being manual recordings and the padding removal being disabled, that could cause a couple extra tuner to be allocated.

Ah, okay, I think I'm tuning in .

If I had 2 recordings at 7 then 2 at 7:30 (which is possible), the up front padding means that at 7:27 I would need 4 tuners. Factor in the show I was watching makes 5.

In actuality, however, at 6:57 it would only need 3 tuners. I would expect it wouldn't start asking me questions until it actually needed the tuner, pre allocation be damned

Well, then the question is how long did the show you were watching live @ 6:57 go, if it ran past one of the later ones, it would occupy a tuner.

Without knowing what all was scheduled and how long it airs(including stuff after the immediate 7:00 shows), it's really hard to say what exactly was going on.

I believe the situation I mentioned above was happening. I did have 2 back to back recordings. That, due to padding, would be 4 tuners. Assuming it was, I still don't understand why it would behave the way it did.

Yes, at 7:27, 4 tuners would be required. Why at 6:53 would it complain, unless it just "assumes" I would continue watching the channel I was on, in which case at 7:27 there would not be enough tuners. I was thinking it wouldn't complain until then.

Sorry if I'm just not getting it.

It needs to anticipate to be able to tune into the channel in time for the start. If you told it no it would begin to look to see if there were alternate times or channels to get this show. If it can't find an alternate it would let you know it would not be recorded at all. Sage does it best attempt to record the show. No matter what channel and time you originally scheduled it for.

Ok - what happened last night, my wife replied to the request to NOT turn to the channel to be recorded. We looked and the manual recording was removed. Apparently because 30 minutes later it would need the tuner and despite the fact that there were enough tuners available to record that show. It killed the 6:57 recording ensuring at 7:27 there would be enough tuners.

Kill current recording in favor of future? I would expect deal with the future when you get there....

I guess I'm beating a dead (er sold) horse.

Without knowing exactly what was scheduled, and how everything was setup it's really impossible to make intelligent guesses as to what happened.

It might be worth looking at the parallel view in the recording schedule so you can see what tuners are set to record what.

Thanks, I've never looked at that one before. That should work well. Maybe I'll set that up later tonight.

I've been having similar issues

I've experienced pretty much what has been described here. Sage asks if it's ok to switch channels and I say no, then it does it anyway.
Also, I have a couple of favorites that Sage is opting to dump halfway through in favor of recording something else. One is Fear Factor (which it keeps not recording the first half) and the other is American Idol - which it keeps dumping the second half.
Unfortunately when I look at system messages to see what it's recording instead it doesn't really say what it chose to record instead, and looking at the parallel recording schedule doesn't help since it won't show history - only present and future. Every time I check recording conflicts it says there are none.
I added a couple of QAM tuners that should ensure availability, but it shouldn't have mattered - the top spot should be the top spot.

I seem to recall something like this happening to me a long time ago and I thought that by simply changing the "Always Tune Channel" option in the Settings menu to either on or off helped, but it's very likely I could be mistaken.
