Better Search for SageTV Forum
A few years ago, my friend and I were building SageTV setups. We were fighting with the Hauppauge HD-PVR and pulling our hair out. At the time, we realized that discussion search was useless. So we decided to quit our jobs and build a new type of discussion search.
We just launched our first example of the technology which is a search engine for Automotive Discussions that covers about 500,000,000 posts. But since SageTV was what inspired us, we also launched a small portal where you can more easily search SageTV discussion threads. For those of you still around, we hope you find it useful. Example Search for hdpvr audio sync Automotive discussion search engine for those who are interested: motoyap.com Thanks, Jacques Last edited by pianophase; 02-01-2012 at 08:06 PM. |

Love the visual representation, although I am wondering what you are using to determine the various branches within the threads that you are displaying. Are they determined based on embedded quotes within individual posts?

We have two ways we crawl. If the forum installs our API, we use both where people click the reply button plus quote references. If we're doing straight HTML consumption, we rely on the quote blocks as you describe. It's not perfect but it works in many situations. We also collapse down branches that are the best sustaining portion of the threads to decrease vertical size. (Otherwise you'd often see a stair-step phenomenon.)

Very cool! I did a search on myself and could see the timelines of various threads I was/am involved in. Some long forgotten stuff from as far back as 2005.

Thanks for the feedback Wayne! This is Kevin , I work with Jacques. As he said earlier, one of the main reasons we got started down this path of building a search engine because we were both trying to get our Sage's up and running. :-)
Any other feedback on what you liked and disliked would really help us out as we are still evolving it. You could also help us out by posting about it on this forum just to remind people it is there. Here is the link to the SageTV YapMap Search Thanks again for taking the time to post some feedback, we really appreciate it! Kevin |

What are your plans for periodically refreshing updated content?
