Warning to Theatertek users

This is just a cautionary note to Theatertek users: Do not install the Elecard MPEG decoders. I tried these out to see what the Dscaler filters would do. However, this caused Theatertek to crash when I tried to run the program. Ended up having to uninstall the Elecard decoders, but then it screwed up the Theatertek install so it now asks for the registration code again, but the code that used to work no longer works (despite no change in hardware) so I have to request another registration code. Luckily SageTV still works.

Oops! I was just about to install SageTV this weekend, and planned on using the dScaler filters. TheaterTek is working great for me, and I don't want to foul it up. Has anyone else had these problems?

Hmm.. I'm using the elecard decoders now, and was planning to install theatertek soon... maybe I'll pass. Course, it may not have trouble if installing in this order, only one way to find out!

True, haven't tried installing the Elecard codecs first, then TT. This might work, but I will let others try this out and report back here. Now that I have my HTPC just about fully configured, I'm not too keen on messing with it.

You also might want to try only installing the Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder. That's all you need for Sage.

What usuallys screws stuff up is their demultiplexor which registers itself as the system default when you install it.

Narflex: What I downloaded from the Elecard site is their decoder package 2.0, which seems to contain both the decoder and the demultiplexor. I don't see any way during the install to choose one without the other.

OK, since I had just backed up my W2K system anyway, I went ahead and installed the Elecard Decoder 2.0 package. TheaterTek still works just fine, and I am able to select and use the Elecard decoder in SageTV.
