The
SST-659 is a pretty nice remote and the price is good, plus free shipping. It says it's a one day sale though, so if you want it get it now. I'm not really sure what Buy.com normally sells this model for but it's $40 cheaper than what Circuit City normally charges.
The only reason I'm not getting one is I'm trying to save up for the
SST-688. The 688 is really just an updated 659 with a improved button layout. Mainly it moves the transport(FF,RW,play, pause, etc) up to the middle of the remote. It does this by dropping the numeric buttons down a little, and placing the transport controls above the numeric keypad. But this is good(IMHO) considering how little you use a numeric key, for PVR use. However, some find the oval layout of the 688 confusing so the 659 is still populiar.
For those of you not familiar with these remotes. You can find great reviews for
any good remote at
remotecentral.com. Also NewEgg has both of these remotes and their site has better/larger/more pictures(see the upper left of their page for larger pictures). Here's the
659B and here's the
688S at newegg.
PS:If you decide to get a 688 shop around. You can usually find one for a little over $150 at NewEgg, Buy.com or J&R. Usually the silver(688S) is ~ $10 more expensive than the black(688b), but for some reason Buy.com has the silver cheaper right now. Maybe because the 688S is currently "on order" and the 688b is in stock, at Buy.com? Who knows.
