It is Getting far enough to send the dhcp request for an IP. I do have a router that will let me assign an ip based on MAC address. But I don't think that's the problem. I think the hd300 gets far enough in its boot
Cycle to get an IP but stops short of any starting any daemons (telnet) or sage services(hence can't get to the firmware reload screen)

Gustovier:

I was looking at the hd300 startup scripts, trying to determine where udhcpd gets started. I finally managed to figure out that SageTV itself is starting udhcpd from /app/sage/scripts/startdhcp

From the startup scripts, telnetd is started way before the SageTV embedded client is launching udhcpd (in /etc/init.d/S40network vs /etc/init.d/S55sage). Have you tried pinging the HD300's IP? Have you tried telnet?

The one thing that I can think of that could lead to the appearance of a partially up network stack is if the SageTV embedded client itself kept crashing & re-starting udhcpd leading to the interface being repeatedly re-configured. If that happened, I'd expect to see lots of dhcp requests, and to see the hd300 be intermittently pingable.
