HDHomeRun Prime and cable card resets

FYI. If you haven't upgraded to the latest Prime firmware I'd recommend not doing it at the moment. A number of us on 0802b1 are having issues with continual cable card reset problems.

0802beta 1 - Subscription Required while watching channel.

Card communication error followed with 'no card'

This effectively ruins any encrypted channel recording that is underway, as when the card reboots, it is not instructed to decrypt the stream and so now becomes encrypted. Not cool. Channels that are clear QAM (i.e. broadcast) aren't affected by this since they wouldn't be encrypted in the first place.

My card has started to reset itself every hour or so now and so most recordings end up being useless.

If you're suffering from this, please file a ticket with SD and turn on your diagnostics so they can have more data on the issue.

I think there is a new beta out that resolves that issue?

Doesn't it just automatically download the latest firmware? I just got an HDHomeRun Prime to test with Sage and I can't get the cablecard to work at all. It says I need to use an M-Card (I got a Motorola card from Time Warner) and I"m not sure if it is a problem with the card or the upgraded firmware in the HDHomeRun. I'm not even sure if TimeWarner will work at all as I don't know if they have copy protection.

I actually could not even get the new beta to run after installing. My server said the executables were not valid executables. I had to go back to the 20120802beta1.

"M-Card" refers to multi-stream cable card. Some of the older cards only allowed tuning one channel at a time. The multi-stream cards allow tuners like the Prime to simultaneously tune and record from multiple channels (the Prime supports 3 channels).

You might need to contact your cable company to swap your card out.

Even if they gave you an M-stream card, they may have given you a defective one. I've seen a lot of posts from people who said the first card their cable co. gave them didn't work. I know in my own case, the tech who came out to install mine (from Comcast) couldn't get the first card to work and had to go back to his truck for a different card.

It's kind of surprising to me - I would think these are solid state devices and wouldn't expect a high failure rate, but who knows?

Do you know if Time Warner blocks a lot of the stations from being recorded? I'm wondering if I'm better off staying with my analog Hauppauge. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike
