DVB-S channel changes

I got feed up with transponder changes so decided to do something about it.

I have written a very basic script to take the regionareachannel.xml produced by EPGCollector to Email you if any channels change or move transponders on DVB-S channels ( Freesat or Sky ).

Not sure if anyone is interested but, if you are let me know and will create a document and post the scripts and files.

Smile Now completely automated

I have now completely automated the channel lineups for DVBS when using EPG collector and DVBe4Sage. It will update any existing channels is the transponder information changes, add any new channels or remove any dead ones. Note it will also map the lineup to the EPG Collector EPG information. I have this working as well by stripping out the episode numbers from the epg file as these cause program data issues within SageTv.

Please let me know if you have any issues, questions or find any bugs.

Sounds good.

Was wondering if you could make this work with DVB(un)Logic.

Yes very possibly, if you could tell me how DVBLogic requires the Physical channel number to be formatted in Sage.

Sage native requires physcial to be onid-tsid-sid-channel number

DVBe4sage requires it to be onid * 65536 + sid.

ummm...KingOfSat hasn't changed the name of the above channels as yet, but I'm wondering whether using OTA data (which are by far the best source as nothing can be as up-to-date) can create false positives as at the end of the day the tuning parameters are not changed and broadcast station logo hasn't changed as well, so messing up the lineup and EPG just for that it seems to me a little bit overkill. Saying that I suspect that because you're using the SID as channel number it shouldn't be a problem, but what about the SageTV station logo thumbnail? Are you updating that accordingly as well?

Good point, don't use channel logo's. Yes this would need to be done manually.

Another thing about automatic channel renaming. A couple of days ago the channel "CineMoi" (movie/entertainment) has been removed and replaced in the exact position (very same frequency, SID, NID, etc) by another channel "Studio 66 TV 4" an "erotic" channel which is obviously very different indeed . What's your current approach in deciding when a channel has changed name?

In the plugin version I will most likely add an option to let the user decide to allow renaming or discarding the channel completely.

I'm using the LCN ( Local channel number - ie sky channel number ) to decide the name. So it is separating them into two channels.

One problem I have is that Sage does not automatically remove channels that are not in the XMLTV import. It will add and update them but it will not remove unless you go into video sources and re-download the configuration.

Not sure whether it works as I haven't tried myself, but what about using the "ctrl:" field in the FRQ file and set it to 0 (disable)?

I suspect there is an API that can do that, again not in that stage yet, but the plugin will most likely disable the channel in the FRQ and issue a system message to inform the user of the change, then let the user to take the best course of action.

It is now removing and handling name changes correctly. My use of the ID field in XMLTV Importer was incorrect. New .exe published on website.

As long as your using DVBe4Sage and happy with its EPG data you should, hopefully never have to update your channel lineup.

Would be grateful for some more test reports and comments on how it works for you.
