HD300 "Out of Memory"

Two days ago, my HD300 locked up -- the "circle of death" quit spinning and the only solution was to unplug the HD300. However, plugging it back in had the unit stopping at the "connecting to Server" stage with a black screen. After many "guesses" (including a "factory reset"), I find that the only cure is to reboot the Server -- and I am unsure that is completely true. Anyway, I find a System Message that says something like:

"Out of Memory Detected (x23). You may need to increase your JVM Heap Size or there could be a plugin/customization that is causing an issue."

The Server is a Vista machine and the only plugin "changes" I know about were the ones that showed up in the System Messages area the past few weeks -- including IIRC the last one was something about the EPG.

Yesterday, I left it on all day and it worked fine for about 14 hours but it crashed again last night after watching a recorded show during the "delete" process -- this is the same timing as previous episodes.

Any suggestions on where I go from here?

Interesting, because I started experiencing the exact same problem at the exact same time. Hopefully increasing heap size will resolve the issue.

Okay, here is an update. I did not adjust my Heap Size (mainly I didn't want to take the time to learn how to even do that.). I preferred to try to discover why the problem suddenly popped up after several years of no problem. So I asked what was I doing differently. In the past, I would start playback of recorded TV shows by going to TV/Recordings/Customized Recordings (interestingly Titled "SageTV Recordings"). There the recorded shows are listed alphabetically (my choice) and I would simply go down the long list and choose the show/episode I wished to watch.

Recently, I switched to Options/SageTV Recording (Interestingly Titled "TV Explorer"). There the shows are listed by date recorded a much more desirable option. At this screen the display would show the "Series' Artwork," a nice touch. I noticed, however, that this "artwork display" was very erratic -- some would show others would be a blank and not in a consistent way -- meaning that as I cycled down the list the Artwork would turn off and on as I landed on a show but not in a predictable way.

Anyway, when I selected a show from the "SageTV Recordings (TV Explorer?) and deleted the show after watching, the program would crash (with the earlier mentioned Memory Overflow).

Therefore, I went back to selecting the shows from the Customized Recordings (SageTV Recordings?) and have had no issues of any kind for the past two days - of extensive use.

Isn't TV Explorer a plugin?

Yes, it is. I have had it installed since ~Jan 2011. (I notice that it is a "Beta" plugin) Anyway, it was modified (v1.05.06) 1/4/13 and I installed the update on 1/7/13, which is about the time I started having the "crash" situations.

Anyway, I was just sayin.

So uninstall the plugin and see if you continue to have the crashing/memory issue.
