Cisco 8642

is anyone controlling a Cisco 8642 set top box via 1394 / FireWire for channel changes controlled by Sage? the cable co. folks don't understand the question

I don't use that exact but I use SA4250HDs and SA3250HDs and firewire channel changes work. I have also used the SA8300HD successfully with channel changes.

Have you tried the drivers for other SA boxes listed here http://home.comcast.net/~exdeus/stbfirewire/

But this likely depends on the exact software that your cable co is using.
