I freely admit my newbeeness.
I have recently purchased the SageTV/Hauppauge PVR-350 bundle and (with much thanks to George from Frey Tech) got SageTV working with it. The problem I have is with setting up for output to tv using the tv-out on the 350 card. I have read over the multitude of posts regarding this topic here (and the relevant pages in the manual), and still cannot figure out what the step-by-step for setting this up is. I thought I had everything enabled, but when I ran the s-video cable to my tv (didn't bother hooking up sound to it), I got a blank screen. I would be grateful to any relatively detailed guide that you could provide me. Thanks. |

Are you sure you have the S-video connected to the S-video out on the card as opposed to S-video in?
I don't have S-video on my TV so I don't know what is needed, but for component input I have to set my TV to the input channel. Are you sure the TV is setup properly? Do you have any other device such as a VCR that can output to your TV using S-video? I would expect you to see colorbars on the TV whenever you reboot. This at least indicates your card is outputting to the TV. Once you reach this step then you can try to configure SageTV to output through the 350.

Have you tried playing a recording yet? With some motherboards, you need to play a video to initialize the 350 output.

thanks for the feedback so far:
calgar - I am using the svideo that is split off of the din-9 output connector, feeding that to the s-video for one of the sources on my a/v switch. I verified the selection of the source by playing my camcorder through it first. zz5 - I have played a recording, but I do not recall if I have tried to use the tvout since that or before it. I will check it tonight. |

I just had to reboot my so I tried to verify that the colorbars came up. Much to my surprise the colorbars do not come up until I started SageTV, so please disregard that test. Looks like you must either use SageTV or WinTV2000 to insure the 350 card is producing output.
With SageTV 2.0 you should just be able to enable the 350 TVout and then see the output of a program on the the TV. I don't think it is needed but would not hurt to restart SageTV if you do not see the TVout after you enable the output. You will probably want to enable the UI to the 350 TVout, but I would wait until you at least see a program on the TV. Once you enable this option, you lose the ability to resize SageTV on you monitor. I would also recommend you use the latest drivers New Hauppauge Beta Drivers for IVAC15/16 Combination , if you are not already.

Thanks again for the responses.
carlgar - I checked everything, and believe that I have enabled TVout in SageTV, along with the GUI (and tried again without the GUI). still no joy. I asked a Windows guy at work who suggested going into the display control panel and enabling the tvout as a monitor, but cannot find anything other than the standard graphics card there. When I tried installing the drivers on hauppauge's site, nothing worked at all (got messages about missing dll's, etc). Before you ask, I did use the utility provided to remove all traces of hauppauge's software prior to installing the new drivers, wintv2000, etc. It was not a happy experience. zz5 - checked, even after playing a recording, still cannot see anything on the tv. still trying things . . . |

The drivers I provided a link to are the latest and newer than what Hauppauge has on their site. However, you should have gotten a clean install with the Hauppauge drivers.
If you go to detailed setup -> multimedia and the 350 output is enabled then SageTV should output through the 350 TVout when you watch a program. Do you even see color bars on your TV yet?

Once again, thanks for the responses.
Carlgar - Still haven't seen the color bars on my TV, but the good news is that I now have TV Output to my set in the next room. Now to extend the IR sensor to that part of the house so I can start really enjoying this stuff. For the record, I have no idea what made it suddenly work. I have not yet upgraded the drivers per the link above. What I did was to change the setup to try a different filter (resulted in no picture on PC-sound only), then another decoder (resulted in no picture or sound). I changed things back and had a split screen with interlaced lines of picture on each half. Restarted the SageTV application and got things back the way they were, and found that I had signal to the TV at that point. Thanks for the great help!! |
