Firewire Channel change on 4642HD STB
Trying to add my fourth HD STB to my system and I use firewire for channel changing on the other three units (4250's and 3250) - the new unit is an Explorer 4642HD box (Rogers, Canada).
I am looking for a modified 'firestb.inf' that has the codes required for this box to be recognized as a 'Panel Device' in device manager on my WHS system. It currently shows as Unknown IEEE 1394/5068 Device. Any help would be appreciated - a search didn't turn up anything for me to try. Thanks!

you can manually load a driver instead of relying of auto-detection.
that is what i need to do from my comcast pace STB. as to which one to try... any one that supports devices of the same manufacturer is likely to use. also when you use the channel change command line make sure to use the parameter that issues the command regardless of whether the device is supported. |

Try this. A while back, someone here was nice enough to edit firestb.inf to include my 4640. I changed his entry in 4 places to read 4642 and it should work as the two boxes are almost identical. Works perfectly for me on Win7 32bit for TimMoore FW tuning. Hope it helps!

Glad to hear it. Like I said, someone here figured it out for me when I got a 4640HDC, I can't remember who, but the thanks goes to him!
I sure hope this forum continues to live on (somewhere) no matter what happens in the next few years..... I've gotten lots of help from the guys here. Rob |

Sorry ... I just noticed this post.
I gave up on the FireWire for this box and went to one of my USBUirts for this unit. Thinking that a firmware update messed this up. I also lost the ability to turn this thing on with the channel presses like all the other old boxes. Rogers decided to take this out of the firmware as it is not in the menu anymore. Looking for a solution to this STB being turned off and Sage not turning it on. Dwight

To be honest you might be better off trying to get older rogers HD boxes like the SA3250HD or SA4250HD - I use one of each with my Sage system. These still have the power on with remote press functionality, or at least they appear to as I use them seamlessly with Sage using Firewire for channel changes. My older SA3200 (nonHD) does not have the power on with key press functionality so I do miss the odd show on that but it is used only for kids shows since I don't care about HD as much, and Rogers just started carrying the HD version of Treehouse very recently.

Which file gets substituted, or edited to include a box that isn't in the list...is it the 'meistb.inf' file that's in the Timmmoore directory? I edited that file to indicate my new receiver, but it didn't show up in Device Manager. Which is the file to edit - thanks
