GI/Motorola
I'm trying to get the serial port on my digital cable box to work. I've read some good info on some of the other threads. I'm curious though. My box is made by General Instruments. If I'm not mistaken, Motorola owns GI right? Will the box that I have work with the various dct plugins?

only way to know is to test it
unless someone else has the same unit you can also check out the specs of the box abd see if motorola makes one similiar |

I had a GI box, & it didn't have a serial port on it, so I switched with another box I had, which was a motorola, and it works good with dct2000.
Just plug in the serial cable to the back of your stb & pc, then run the dct.exe though cmd prompt. Hope this helps. cc

Ok. So in the configuration for the box and the model is indeed DCT. Firmware was 7.73 and upon further inspection (looking at the underside of the box), the full model # is DCT2224 - found on a Motorola sticker. The box I guess just happens to be branded w/ the GI logo on the front.
Unfortunately, the serial port does not seem to work. |
